American rapper Akon has signed an agreement to build his own blockchain city in Senegal. Akon City should become a center of ecotourism.
He advised about this initiative on his Twitter handle.
To remind, the rapper unveiled his intention to construct the city of the future in Senegal back in 2018. And now, the president of the country, Maki Sal has granted the territory of 800 hectares to the businessman for this purpose.
The city will be built on the banks of the village of Mbodien. The tentative date of completion is 2025. That said, the project’s cost is $2 billion.
“Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal,” the rapper wrote. “Looking forward to hosting you there in the future.”
Akon City will apparently be Senegal’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) city. It will be located next to an international airport and use its own cryptocurrency, Akoin.
Besides, Akon City aims to become the world center of ecotourism. It will use only renewable energy sources, like Akon Lighting Africa. It generates electricity from solar panels and supplies it to African countries.
Akon’s projects in Africa
Recently, the celebrity has done a lot for business and charity in Africa. In 2014, the musician launched the mentioned Akon Lighting Africa project.
Moreover, the rapper intends to launch his own crypto coin at the beginning of this year. The relevant tweet appeared on CNN’s handle last year.
Earlier in his interview, Akon explained his activity. He believes that keeping millions to oneself is real madness as there are people in need in the world.
That said, Africa has a huge crypto potential. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey believes the continent is the future of bitcoin.
