As a leading wireless telecommunications provider in the United States, Verizon’s adoption of blockchain technology is big news for the market.
A recent post on LinkedIn indicates that the company is venturing into blockchain technology. Possibly with the intention of building products based on blockchain for privacy, payments, and security purposes. As a subsidiary of Verizon Communications, it offers wireless products and telecommunication related services.
The company has listed 35 new positions that require the knowledge of blockchain technology. The website of Verizon details that they want to hire 5 Blockchain Engineers and Blockchain Technology Development Leaders, along with other blockchain-related jobs.
Going by the description the company has shared on their website, it is apparent that they are focusing on enhancing identity projects, uplifting security initiatives, and are looking for overall technical development in that sphere.
That said, Verizon is not the first company to look towards blockchain technology. AT&T has begun accepting payments in Bitcoin cryptocurrency through BitPay. Last year, industry giants such as Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and many financial institutions have begun the process of hiring blockchain engineers.
With the major companies already hiring, it could become difficult for Verizon to find candidates with proper experience and knowledge in the field. Sources reveal that many candidates have been interviewed over two years. But, the search isn’t over as they are yet to find the right personnel.
It will be interesting to watch how Verizon will come out with a blockchain-based product by the due date they have in mind.
Will more companies follow Verizon and other giants? We may not have to wait long to know.
