Adoption is coming: Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S10, will include a dedicated secure storage function that is designed for cryptocurrency private keys.

We’ve witnessed multiple Galaxy S10 leaks in the recent months, but finally, after a lot of speculation, the South Korean technology giant and phone-maker, Samsung, has finally presented the new Galaxy S10 series.

Interestingly enough, besides an upgrade in existing functionalities, the long-awaited successor to the Samsung Galaxy S9 also possesses Samsung Knox, a new function targeted toward cryptocurrency users.

The official statement from Samsung:

“Galaxy S10 is built with defense-grade Samsung Knox, as well as a secure storage backed by hardware, which houses your private keys for blockchain-enabled mobile services.”

Rumors that the Galaxy S10 might include a crypto wallet have been circulating since last year, though the firm did not formally confirm these until Wednesday. Unfortunately, for now, more details about Samsung Knox have not been given.

Samsung is not the first phone-maker that is shifting its focus to blockchain and cryptocurrency. In October last year, the Taiwanese firm HTC unveiled the blockchain-based smartphone Exodus 1 which has been designed to store the owner’s cryptocurrencies securely.

The Exodus 1 incorporates a hardware cryptocurrency wallet which is completely separated from the phone’s Android operating system. Therefore, the Exodus 1 can be seen as a smartphone, but also a cryptocurrency hardware wallet.

It will be interesting to receive more information about Samsung Knox in the near future.
