After being impersonated on Twitter by scam artists, Elon Musk has revealed his cryptocurrency holdings.

Scam posts on Twitter are becoming more common. A lot of fake profiles are being created impersonating famous blockchain figures in attempts to steal cryptocurrency from other users. Scammers will ask for a small donation and in exchange, they promise to send back several times the amount donated. That is of course not the case, instead, they will keep your money.

A number of fake account pretending to be Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and entrepreneur known for founding Tesla and SpaceX, is now popping up on Twitter. However, when a concerned Twitter user asked Musk “why is all the spam popping up lately?”, he answered in a tweet:

Musk responded: “I literally own zero cryptocurrency, apart from .25 BTC that a friend sent me many years ago.” Using today’s Bitcoin price, Elon Musk’s .25 BTC is worth roughly $2500, which is only 0.000012% of his total net worth which stands a $21.4 billion.

Last year, Musk denied rumors suggesting that he was Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. The rumors began after Sahil Gupta, who was a former intern at SpaceX, said in a blog post: “Satoshi is probably Elon”.

“Elon is a self-taught polymath. He’s repeatedly innovated across fields by reading books on a subject and applying the knowledge. It’s how he built rockets, invented the Hyperloop (which he released to the world as a paper), and could have invented Bitcoin.” Said Sahil Gupta.

The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is still unknown.
