Hunter Merghart expressed his belief in the company’s strategy and can’t wait to play a part in executing it.

 

Bitstamp, a long-running cryptocurrency exchange, has hired a former Coinbase executive, Hunter Merghart, as its head of U.S. operations. Merghart is also a Wall Street veteran.

The announcement was made earlier today, Hunter Merghart joined Bitstamp after leaving his job as the head of trading at San Francisco-based Coinbase in October.

He’s expected to lead the opening of the Luxembourg-based exchange’s New York office. The company received a BitLicense from the state last month and would focus on serving institutional clients.

 

High hopes

Nejc Kodrič, CEO of Bitstamp, expressed high hopes in the company’s newest addition.  He said, “Merghart is the perfect person to lead our U.S. operations. This includes making sure our retail and institutional investors have a platform”.

He also added that Merghart will ensure that they get services that equals what they would find at any traditional exchange anywhere in the world.

Bitstamp is the 19th company to obtain a BitLicense, giving it permission to serve New York residents. Currently, it’s planning to expand its business in the U.S., which till recently has been in a quiet phase.

Speaking to a reporter, Merghart said he believes in the strategy that the team has put in place and can’t wait to help execute it.

He added that it is an amazing opportunity to take what he has learned in both traditional finance and crypto to a larger role. He believes he can play a major role in growing the business of one of the largest European crypto exchange.
