Decentraland Partners Binance over COVID-19

Decentraland, a virtual reality platform built on the Ethereum blockchain has join forces with global crypto exchange, Binance, to launch a #CryptoAgainstCOVID initiative.

The partnership with these companies will enable its clients to donate towards the fight against the pandemic currently ravaging the world. Decentraland announced this in its official blog on April 10 and also tweeted about the development.

Details of the donation drive

All users have to do is put ETH into one of the mask dispensers at play.decentraland. Users can donate as they wish. However, if they opt for $10 worth of ETH, it would get the mask on display in the dispenser of their choice.

Decentraland will also be donating $10,000 to the cause and during the first two days will match 100% of donations up to $5,000.

According to the blog post, all proceeds of the donations will go towards medical supplies for healthcare organizations and personnel fighting against COVID-19.

Plans for the future

The Ethereum-based virtual reality platform had earlier stated its ambition to attract more gamers into cryptocurrency and true digital ownership. Accordingly, it has developed the core products of the platform – the Builder, the SDK, the Marketplace, and the World.

Decentraland noted that during the past year it had released the Builder, organized the Creator Contest and two Hackathons. Additionally, it also established the open-source release of the client and now the independent Decentraland Foundation.

According to the platform, the Foundation would oversee the long-term success of Decentraland and fill the gaps in the functionality of a DAO. It would thus be able to act as a legal entity that can hold brand rights, copyright, etc.

“It will also continue improving the protocol, the reference client and the core smart contracts of the platform,” the announcement added.
