Over two dozen locals have filed a lawsuit.
They say that the noise from the mining site is “intolerably loud” and has become a serious “nuisance”. Let’s discover more about this news for Bitcoin.
The Noise Problem
The lawsuit, filed on October 4 in Hood County court, claims that the noise and vibrations from Marathon’s mining facility are causing “extreme discomfort and annoyance.” According to the residents, the constant, unrelenting sounds have led to various health issues. They report experiencing fatigue, headaches, memory problems, and even hearing loss. Some locals with existing health conditions, like high blood pressure, say their symptoms have worsened due to the noise.
“Even in their own homes, residents can hear the MARA Cryptomine’s noise and feel its vibrations,” the lawsuit states. It claims that Marathon’s operations significantly interfere with the residents’ enjoyment of their properties.

Rodrigo Cantú, a senior attorney with Earthjustice, a nonprofit environmental law firm, is representing the residents. In a statement on October 7th, he expressed the residents’ desire for Marathon to take “immediate action to effectively mitigate their noise pollution or shut down operations altogether.”
The residents are not just seeking to be heard; they’re also asking the court for a permanent order to stop Marathon from creating “unreasonable noise.” They want to ensure that the mining facility doesn’t continue to disturb their lives. In addition to stopping the noise, they are asking for any compensation they might deserve, including court costs.
