Harris Backs Crypto, Emphasizes Consumer Protections

Current US Vice President Kamala Harris has for the first time expressed her support for the crypto industry publicly.

While speaking to donors in New York, Harris said her administration will “invest in America’s future,” which includes crypto.

Harris Vows to Support Crypto Innovation While Protecting Consumers

Harris plans to focus her policies on consumer protection. A Bloomberg report quoted Harris as having said, “To build that opportunity economy, I will bring together labor, small businesses, founders and innovators, and major companies. We will partner together to invest in America’s competitiveness, to invest in America’s future.”

Harris added, “We will encourage innovative technologies like AI and digital assets while protecting consumers and investors. We will create a safe business environment with consistent and transparent rules of the road.”

The Democratic candidate has for long stayed silent about her plans for digital assets. There were speculations within the industry that Harris could adopt a similar strong-hand approach to digital assets like the Biden administration.

Crypto companies faced intense scrutiny and enforcement actions under the Biden administration. However, her comments at the recent fundraising dinner have put such fears to rest.

Interestingly, Harris has gained significant support within the crypto community. Following her speech in New York, Uniswap Labs CEO Hayden Adams took to X to endorse the Democratic candidate.

Crypto Plays a Huge Role in This Election

Harris’s public support for crypto comes days after her Republican rival, Donald Trump, was reported to have purchased burgers using crypto. The former US President has actively courted the support of crypto users. Trump has severally spoken in support of the industry and has shared plans to create a conducive environment for the industry in the US.

Anthony Scaramucci, founder and managing partner of SkyBridge Capital, recently announced that he has joined Harris’s campaign as part of her pro-crypto group. Scaramucci, who previously worked with the Trump administration, shared this news at the Token 2049 in Singapore. The SkyBridge founder will help Harris develop her policies for the crypto industry.

Most crypto enthusiasts and experts see the embrace of cryptocurrencies by both candidates as a welcomed development. Alexander Grieve, a leader at venture firm Paradigm, noted that regardless of the result in November, “this should be the last anti-crypto administration.”
