How Does Kamala Harris See Crypto?

US President Joe Biden recently withdrew from the US presidential election and announced Vice President Kamala Harris as his nominee for the party ticket.

In President Biden, crypto lovers faced an administration that strongly opposed the industry. With Biden out of the race, the real question is, What’s Vice President Harris’s view on crypto?

What’s Vice President Harris’s Stance on Crypto After Biden’s Withdrawal?

Vice President Harris was largely silent on issues around digital assets and cryptocurrencies. She never expressed support or reservations against crypto, blockchain, tokenization, and NFTs.

While there’s no official word on her stance on digital assets, we can safely predict what her stance could be. For example, Vice President Harris could continue in President Biden’s course since her donors and political contributors are largely from Biden’s camp. Here is an example of what her behavior can be:

On the other hand, Harris is a California native and is seen as tech-friendly. This has led to suggestions that she could warm up to cryptocurrencies. Harris’s selection of a running mate could be another deciding factor in her view on crypto.

More About Harri’s Crypto Policy

Some of the possible candidates – including Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, or Transportation Secretary Pete Butteggeig – are business-oriented.

Interestingly, news has emerged that Harris could speak at the coming Bitcoin Conference. Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump is scheduled to make an appearance at the event.

David Bailey. the CEO of the Bitcoin 2024 conference said conversations were ongoing with Harri’s campaign team over an appearance at the event. Should this happen, it could be a step towards gaining support from the crypto community.

Pro-Crypto Group Urges Harris to Embrace Crypto in Her Campaign

The Digital Chamber, a crypto advocacy group, in a letter, urged Harris to select a running mate with “a proven track record of engaging with digital asset technology and proposing pro-innovation policies.”

The group wrote in its letter that “ There is a public perception that the party ( Democratic party) holds a negative viewpoint on digital assets, largely due to the Biden/Harris Administration’s notably cautious and at times hostile approach to these transformative technologies. We believe this previous hostility does not reflect the progressive and inclusive values of your Party.”

The advocacy group singled out Colorado Gov. Jared Polis for his pro-crypto views. Polis accepted donations in crypto. And approved tax payments in crypto. They further urged Vice President Harris to include pro-crypto language in her campaign.

Democrats will select a presidential nominee at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month.
