US Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly set to recruit former Binance adviser David Plouffe for her 2024 election campaign.
This is part of Harris’ plans to include crypto in her campaign.
Harris Taps Crypto Expert David Plouffe for 2024 Campaign
Plouffe comes highly recommended and experienced within the crypto community. For example, he served as a former advisor to Alchemy Pay, a crypto payment platform. And as a former advisor and campaign manager for President Barack Obama.
Furthermore, Plouffe’s addition comes days after the Democratic National Committee announced that Harris has secured enough votes to emerge as the party’s flag bearer at the 2024 elections. Harris’s sudden rise to the polls sparked questions about her views on cryptocurrency.
Harris was scheduled to have a roundtable discussion with crypto leaders on Monday, August 5th. However, the meeting was later postponed to a yet-to-be-announced date. There’s no official reason for the delay. However, many believe Democratic leaders need more time to come up with a policy for the cryptocurrency industry.
Trump Secures Support from the Digital Assets Community
While Harris seeks to mend her reputation within the cryptocurrency community, Donald Trump has gained significant support from the industry. The Republican nominee and former US President has received over $25 million from crypto supporters. Trump prides himself on being a pro-crypto candidate, showing his interest in the sector by accepting donations in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
Trump also cautioned the Biden administration against emptying the US Bitcoin holdings. The former US leader made this call during an interview with streamer and influencer Adin Ross. Trump described the crypto industry as “a very modern currency.”
“I know a lot of very good people that are really into that world and into that market; they’re smart, they’re good people, and they think it’s going to be very beneficial,” he added.
Several crypto leaders have expressed their beliefs that the industry would thrive under Trump. Fred Thiel, chairman and CEO of Bitcoin mining company Marathon Digital Holdings, believes Harris would adopt similar policies to President Biden. He, however, noted that the mining sector would thrive under Trump.
