Binance Charity Partners With UNICEF To Support Beirut

Binance Charity Foundation recently announced their partnership with UNICEF Luxembourg to support Beirut after the disaster they experienced in August.

Binance Charity has contributed $10,000 worth of crypto to support the people of Beirut. With this partnership, water and sanitation systems will be restored, and the focus will be on the reconstruction and maintenance of damaged buildings and apartments.

About the Beirut Disaster

On the 4th of August, Beirut’s port experienced an explosion that affected neighboring environments in just a few seconds. About 300,000 people were victims of this disaster, including 100,000 children. The explosion affected people from all wealth levels as it caused the near-total destruction of apartments and buildings in both rich and poor neighborhoods.

While the explosion leveled many buildings and city infrastructure, some were impacted more mildly. However, vital water structures have been severely impacted. For example, the Achrafieh pumping station was utterly destroyed, and as a result, families are left without supplies and water to carry out their daily activities.

UNICEF’s Support for Beirut

In swift response to the disaster, UNICEF and other non-profit organizations showed up within 18 hours of the incident. They were the first helpers that many people saw after the catastrophe. When they arrived, they checked on families and households in order to know how they were affected.

As a method of response, UNICEF’s WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) program made sure that every building had access to clean water as soon as they could. Within 48 hours, the program supplied nine 1,000-liter water tanks, which were then installed, and destroyed water pipelines had undergone repair.

Binance Charity Contributes Towards UNICEF’s WASH Program

With its donation of $10,000 worth of crypto, Binance will support UNICEF’s WASH program within the UNICEF Lebanon Emergency Appeal. The contribution will also be geared towards the restoration of sanitation and water systems. However, the focus will be on some pressing needs like reconstruction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of apartments that have been damaged, especially in regards to plumbing services.

The donation will also be used to acquire and install water tanks, improve sanitation support for affected buildings, and supply mini hygiene kits to affected apartment blocks. Such kits include soap, towels, and sanitary pads for young women, and baby, hygiene, and COVID protection kits to affected families still living in damaged apartments.

With our donation, we seek to bring the necessities back to those affected by the blast and bring comfort while those try to rebuild their lives.”

In agreement with the CEO, Helen Hai, Head of Binance Charity, points out, “On behalf of Binance, Binance Charity looks forward to helping improve conditions for the long road ahead. With our teams coming together and stepping up to help one another, the glimmer of hope looks bright.”

UNICEF and Binance Charity Foundation have come together to build strong bonds with the Beirut community. This partnership focuses on providing services and assisting families for a better future. This would be achieved by showing care and supplying clean water to affected families.

As explained by Sandra Visscher, executive director of UNICEF Luxembourg, “Digital economies and currencies offer new opportunities and tools to help children, impacting their lives for generations to come. That’s why it is important for UNICEF to explore the full potential they offer. Through Binance Charity’s support, we will not only be able to protect the children and their families in the aftermath of the explosions but also to provide them with the best possible help to improve their lives in a sustainable way.”
