According to TAIPEI (Taiwan News), Taiwan-headquartered electronics manufacturer, HTC, is set to release a second-generation blockchain phone.

The product is expected in the second half of the year. This will also increase the company’s presence in the global blockchain market.

The announcement was made by HTC Decentralized Chief Officer Phil Chen. This was through a keynote speech on the topic of decentralization. The speech took place at an investment trend forum held at Taipei 101 on Friday, 26th of April.

 

Blockchain a part of future plans

According to Chen, the development of blockchain technology is still at a nascent stage. But, he envisions a future where the advancement of the technology will unlock huge commercial potential. This can be related to the commercial value of petroleum from the 1900s upwards, Central News Agency quoted him.
He also said that the benefit of blockchain dwells in accessibility to data and ensuring privacy for users. Therefore, underscoring the value of the relatively untapped technology.

 

Progress from HTC

In the last quarter of 2018, HTC rolled out its first blockchain phone, HTC Exodus. Its sales have also been keeping up with the company’s expectations.

In addition to the release of the latest version blockchain phone, HTC is also working towards a broader digital asset management product line. This will also include cryptocurrency applications.

The Taiwan-based electronics giant recently announced plans to invest in the US$50-million blockchain fund, Proof of Capital. This move shows that plans for the development of the company’s blockchain phones are already in motion.
