IOTA has partnered with Primority, a company which specializes in food safety. Together they want to ensure that customers know what they consume.
In an official press release, the company explains that the food supply chain is difficult and opaque. We do not always know what exactly we eat and what allergens are inside the food. Sometimes this might prove to be fatal.
To ensure food transparency and consumer safety the IOTA Foundation and Primority have partnered. Together, they are developing cutting edge DLT-powered technologies — the 3iVerify and Tangle platforms.
Essentially, food manufacturers will collect accurate information on their manufacturing chains, using the 3iVerify platform. Customers, in turn, will utilize IOTA’s product, the Tangle. It is a blockchain based program which allows tracking the origin of food. All you have to do is scan the barcode with an app. According to the release, you won’t need to share any personal, sensitive information. What’s more, you don’t even need to own crypto.
“Moreover, a similar system does not require any consumer log in into the app and information can be fetched from any app or even by using any Tangle explorer available on the web (e.g. thetangle.org). Retailers or any third party can integrate the same logic and the available information to provide the same food allergens service as part of their offer to customers,” the release reads.
Here is how it works:

The company adds that “to leverage the full IOTA power we are now investigating the role of tokens as incentives to generate more consumer awareness by rewarding scanning activities and other desired user behaviors.”
