Openmesh has the ambitious goal of becoming the Amazon Web Services of Web3. They are bringing the decentralized cloud to our industry and to everyone. Maybe we will be a little less dependent on Google and Amazon this way.

Openmesh has a great giveaway going on now. So let’s look into it.

Brief Intro to Openmesh

We’ve talked about Openmesh before and many of the smart moves they are making like their recent partnership with Chainlink. The project is one of the most ambitious DePIN projects we’ve seen. People are sharing their extra computing storage space in over 170 countries. And growing.

They are asking, and trying to answer, the difficult question:

If a dApp is built using Amazon Web Services, then how decentralized can it be?

And the easiest and simplest answer is not enough. Someone at AWS can flip a switch and shut it off. So that doesn’t work. Openmesh is working to let app builders do their thing but in an affordable, decentralized environment.

They are calling their work the beginning of the Era of Decentralization. They just had a meet and greet with investors during Chainlink’s SmartCon event in HK at the end of October. As mentioned earlier, with this new partnership, Openmesh had a prominent role at this conference.

The goal of the Era of Decentralization is to take decentralization of our industry into 90%+ territory from where it is today.

Even the current claims of 70%-ish decentralization might be a little too optimistic. But it’s getting better.

The Openmesh $100 Million Cloud Credit Giveaway

Now onto the big news. Openmesh is giving away $100 million worth of cloud credits to business clients to use the service.

This is a sign of how confident Openmesh is that those who try the service will love it and stay with it. Listen to the announcement in the above tweet and you will hear the project already has agreements with data center providers like

  • Equinix
  • High Velocity
  • and Vultr.

These are big, legacy data centers. They provide some needed GPU and storage access. Their excess capacity is going into Openmesh’s Web3 layer. Meanwhile. the rest of the network is distributed over the 170+ countries mentioned earlier and with business and individual users who run nodes and supply storage space or computing power.

Openmesh also has its own App Store that lets builders get the storage and computing speed they need right away so they can deploy test versions of their apps.

If you are looking for a more decentralized storage solution to build out your dApp or to store sensitive data, then give Openmesh a try. You can claim your free credits as part of this giveaway by following their X account and signing up to try the service.
