Devcon 7 and its Side Events in Bangkok, Thailand, a Recap

Devcon 7 and its side events in Bangkok, Thailand are all done and dusted. Was it a good conference? And how was it to have the conference in such a busy city like Bangkok? What were the highlights? We have the answers to these questions, all from our perspective.

So, let’s dive in and find out what Devcon 7 in Bangkok was all about.

Devcon 7 and its Side Events in Bangkok

Devcon 7 in Bangkok, Thailand seems to have been a great choice. A couple of days before Devcon 7 itself started, there were already plenty of side events all over the city. Devcon 7 took place between 12th and 15th November. However, GeckoCon took place on Monday, the 11th of November.

In the week leading up to Devcon, there were already plenty of other side events happening. For the organizers of the side events, the Bangkok choice was apparently a good one. The venues were affordable and well-equipped to host the events. However, it was important to pick the right location.

Bangkok is a busy city with a serious traffic issue. From early morning to late in the evening, traffic jams are rather the norm than the exception. What looks nearby, on a map, can mean up to a 1-hour cab ride. The traffic and traffic jams in Bangkok are notorious. That was the only downside that I heard from fellow attendees at the conference and the side events.

The event itself was big. Over a week before the start of Devcon 7, the side events had already kicked off. During Devcon itself, there were easily 20 to 30 side events per day. As a visitor/attendee, it was essential to choose wisely. How important was it to visit an event and how far away is it from your previous and next destination? So, having these logistics out of the way, Devcon 7 in Bangkok was a great success.

Devcon 7 Highlights

However, with all the various side events going on, the highlights for each person differ. Nonetheless, here are some of my highlights.

  • Injective Summit — Great setup with various projects on Injective with a booth on the premises. There were also great presentations.
  • Sui Connect Bangkok — This was great for networking and I found out about brand-new projects on Sui. Like the AI-related project Oscar Network.
  • ArbiVerse — Good for networking and, like Injective, a few Arbitrum projects had a booth.
  • Bumping into Vitalik Buterin on my way to the sky train.

The picture below shows the opening speech of the Injective Summit by Eric Cheng.

I also met the person who is behind the German Blockchain Week, in Berlin, come June 2025. That’s something to keep an eye out for.
