MetaGods is a Play-To-Earn (P2E) 8-bit Action Role-Playing Game (RPG) supported on blockchain technology.
The General Manager of Altcoin Buzz, Anindya (Ani) Baidya, anchored the MetaGods AMA session on our Telegram channel with Jack Nolan, the Project Manager of MetaGods. Besides, the AMA took place on November 29th, 2021.
Below is a recap of the AMA session with Jack Nolan to understand what the game is about. The AMA was also in three segments: introduction, deep dive, and community questions and answers.
Segment 1: Introduction to MetaGods
Background Information
Q – To start with, tell us about your company. How was the concept of MetaGods created?
Good question. MetaGods was born after a long brainstorm session with the original team. It’s a mixture of a lot of the games we grew up playing with a blockchain element.
Some of our inspirations include RotMG, Undertale, Diablo, Path of exile, and many others. We figured why not throw our name in the hat to create something unique for the community.
Q – You were talking about the original team. Tell us a bit about your team. Where is the team based out of?
Our team is pretty distributed, but we have a game studio here in Asia. Our team is primarily anonymous due to our previous triple-A game studio background. We’ve signed non-competition clauses and cannot reveal ourselves. Many of our game devs are ex-animoca, and I am an ex-activision.
I’m originally from the states but am now based in Asia to be closer to the game studio and what we are building.
Segment 2: Deep Dive
About the game
Q – MetaGods is the world’s first Play-To-Earn 8-bit Action RPG built on the blockchain. Why did you decide on 8-bit?
There are a few reasons for this. The first is for the culture. As you know, crypto punks are the original OG of NFTs that are super-hot today. They are 8-bit.
The second reason is simplicity. We wanted to create something that we were confident in the building. Many games out there will not have a working product or will take years to build. When you render and create worlds in 3D, essentially, you are shooting yourself in the foot to start. Unless you already have a team of 100 developers, what it will take for you to create a game is long.
Our team previously spent three years building out their last 3D game for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It was a grind, and three years is a LONG time in crypto. With 8-bit, we can move fast and create something working within a few weeks/months and have it fun and engaging.
Q – Can you please introduce the gameplay/storyline to our community?
The characters you see are randomly generated (generative character NFTs), and they will be your character in-game.
Depending on your god blood%, this will determine your rarity. We will take each character’s metadata and family tree (previous history), which will be the overall rarity.
Each character is randomly generated, and the rarity will also be completely random. We are partnering with Chainlink to integrate their VRF technology to ensure that this process is FAIR and RANDOM.
Regarding the storyline, there’s quite a lot of lore to it. Essentially, Zeus has taken over the realms due to his thirst for power, and players are on the path to ascension. They are on the way to becoming true gods and defeating Zeus at the citadel of the seven peaks in Zion.
Q – We have heard of Generative Art. Generative NFTs for games are relatively new. How do you mint these NFTs? Are these the Gods? What will be the first step of a player? Get tokens or NFTs or both?
You will be able to mint the NFTs through our dApp, which we will give more info too soon. We plan to provide early access to game characters and adventure packs near the end of this week. Stay tuned for that.
The characters are broken down into different parts. So, for example, Zeus’ head, Hades’ body, etc. All gods and characters are fully drawn, but each body part is imported separately. We will also publish a rarity chart for everyone soon.
The first step for the player would be to get a character NFT. This is the character they will be using in the game. The tokens would come next, in the form of entry fees and upgrades, etc. Best to have both, but we are also working on a “free-to-play” feature for community inclusion. However, if it is free to play, the character NFT would be super low-tier, and the rewards would be much lower.
Q – You will announce the early access by the end of this week, right? What forum will you use? Just so that our community is ready to jump in.
Announcement coming very soon. We will release on our medium first, followed by all socials.
Q – You have a dual token model $MGOD and $RELIC. So what is the role of these two tokens in the game?
Regarding the tokens, please bear with me as this may be a bit of a long answer. I will be as thorough as soon as possible.
The first token is $MGOD. The MGOD token is the core game token, designed to be deflationary by nature. Our $MGOD token will be used to purchase unique and limited edition adventure packs consisting of character NFTs and equipment. Using the MGOD token to buy these packs allows the players to draw higher rarity characters and items. This includes character strength attributes as well as overall god blood %. On top of this, players will receive mythical and legendary items to use in-game. So, for example, I could draw a magic-heavy character, as well as a robe for armor and staff as a weapon.
The only way to defeat the monster bosses in the highest yield dungeons is by equipping the most potent weapons and armor. Thus, whoever uses the $MGOD token will have a better edge in the game. The $MGOD token will also be used as an entry fee to get into our unique dungeons for the rarest rewards and highest APY. Think of these as “exclusive rights” for token holders.
Another use case will be for the governance of game direction. We will have many dungeons and levels available in development, but it is up to the community which realm we release first. For example, if we had the Chimera Dungeon and the Minotaur Dungeon, which would you choose? The district would decide this fate.
More Token Utility
Our supporters would also stake the $MGOD token to earn the in-game token, $RELIC, which we will describe further.
The in-game token, $RELIC will be the backbone of the entire MetaGods’ metaverse economy. RELIC tokens are used to enter dungeons (entry fee) and used to purchase, repair, and upgrade weapons and armors. In-game consumable items can also be purchased by $RELIC tokens. When players stake the $MGOD token, they will slowly earn XP and the $RELIC token. They will then use this token as a utility for fast-track character upgrades, item buying, and other in-game fees. We plan to solve the Diablo Problem, which I can go in more depth if interested. The solution to this problem is by weapon durability and level locks, which the RELIC token will also come into play.
More Information About the Game & Future Plans
Q – What is the Diablo Problem?
The diablo problem is a problem that exists in traditional gaming (in diablo actually, lol!). Let’s do a quick thought exercise. What would you do if you were already a level 99 character? What’s the best way to make use of my high level?
Ani: I cash out? I am not sure. lol
Jack: Well, I think I would go back to the mid-tier dungeons and defeat all the bosses over and over. I would also leverage my strength over other players and farm all the items/weapons from the lower level stages. I would then take these items and weapons and throw them into the marketplace. After I do that, I can profit.
However, the problem with this is that the market becomes highly inflated, and each item and weapon/armor will go down in value. This is a huge problem, and it has to be solved before we launch the game. Otherwise, history will repeat itself.
Q – One final question before I open up the forum. Are you planning an upcoming IDO, when and where are you launching?
You guys are going to get me in trouble, hahaha. So, I can’t say anything about the date yet, and I really shouldn’t know where we are launching. However, I’ve been following Altcoin Buzz a long time, and I’m a real fan of the community, so that I will reveal one of the platforms.
We recently confirmed with GameFi to do a launch off of their platform. We are also in talks with some big exchanges, as well as other Launchpads.
Segment 3: Community Questions and Answers
From this segment, the five best questions were rewarded with USDT 500 each.
Q.Twitter – MetaGods introduces a “Permadeath” mechanism that is secured by a distributed ledger. One of the Cons of this mechanism is having to restart over too frequently can deter new players from the game or leave players feeling frustrated. What solution did you use for this problem?
This is a great question. So to clarify, the permadeath mechanism is only for the hardcore mode. We have multiple game modes, and one of them is hardcore.
When you die in hardcore mode, essentially, the player will be locked out of the game mode for the rest of the season. It will, however, still be playable in casual mode. Casual mode is an auto-play function where you can earn passively. This way, you technically don’t have to restart over and over. That said, you will lose all of your items and upgrades. There needs to be a risk factor to gaming; otherwise, why play at all? If you are winning all the time, you’ll be bored in no time.
Another way to combat the permadeath is to have a resurrection stone equipped when playing. We will also have an escape talisman and other items to help players come back from life or escape automatically. The only real risk happens when the player decides to “go for the gusto.” For example, if a boss has 200 HP and the player has 10 HP left, they always choose to nexus out and teleport back to base. It’s only when they decide to risk it that they are in real danger. If you risk it and win, you will be greatly rewarded. If they die there without the special items equipped, it will be over.
Q.Twitter – I Love Staking & farming and will always be interested in the Staking where investors get passive income from. What are the Staking Pool pairs at MetaGods? What makes your Staking & farming ecosystem more attractive to investors & connoisseurs of the Staking ecosystem like me?
There will be LP staking and single Staking available, but the real fun is in the social gamefi aspect. Imagine if you could stake your NFTs into different missions. Since you can only use one character at a time, what would be the point of having more than one character? Well, you would be able to stake your other characters into different side missions (pools) to earn a small amount of passive income while you play.
The social aspect comes in when you play with your friends. The more friends that you play with, the higher your APY. For example, if I were to play with Ani and a few other Altcoin Buzz community members against the ape boss, our APY would be much higher than if I were to play the game alone. We want to bring a social aspect into gamefi because we believe that games are meant to be played with friends.
Q.Twitter – Collaboration and partnerships are one of the cornerstones to making every project more widespread. Can you tell us about MetaGod’s current partners and plans for partnerships?
Our most recent partner is NFTb. We are partnering with another HUGE game, and since the announcement is set to come out in 5 hours, I can’t reveal it yet. My team would kill me. We have a list of NFT marketplaces and other metaverse games that we are reaching out to. Also, we have some fantastic advisors coming on board and S-Tier investors as well.
We will be revealing all this week, so please stay tuned. Super excited to share these with all of you.
Q.Telegram – You keep comparing your project to Diablo and PoE, but I get intense Enter the Gungeon vibes from it, especially when it comes to gameplay and art style. My question is, how do you plan on building your project’s identity, differentiating it from well-established and known IPs?
I just googled Enter the Gungeon, and it’s pretty similar to our game. The difference between that game and ours is a few things. First off, we are basing the game on mythology. Greek, Norse, etc. Identity wise, we are gods on the path to ascension! Our storyline and world-building are slightly different, but our true edge comes from the gamefi aspect. We have a DeFi platform building out and the game, and since it will be living on the blockchain, this is a big difference.
Our players can now earn while playing this game. We are implementing finance into a fun game, which makes all of the difference. Our game artist is also excellent. He has over a decade of experience in game UI and design. We also have certain art specifically aimed at the crypto community.
Here’s a sneak peek at our Ape boss. He has four animations. Weapons locked, weapons free, and both striking positions. Apes are a massive symbol of the crypto world. In the regular world, however, not so much. This game is for everyone, but we are gamers and crypto enthusiasts at heart.
Q.Telegram – NFT gaming is becoming a thing in the crypto industry. As a stakeholder in the industry, what challenges does MetaGods face?
The biggest challenge we face is choosing the right partnerships. We have a lot of requests, but we need to make sure that we choose the best ones for our community. We are hard-committed to this game for the long term, and we need good partnerships for long-term sustainability.
