4 Must-Own Altcoins for January 2025 Crypto Markets

Come on the 20th January, crypto might see big changes. It’s the day that Trump will take office. There will also be a new chair of the SEC, since Gary Gensler steps down on the very same day. So, January is going to be an interesting month. This can also benefit some altcoins out there. For example, one altcoin has a bunch of ETF approvals due after Trump’s inauguration. 

Another token will get a Binance listing. These are all reasons that we can expect a pump for said altcoins. So, without further ado, let’s dive into these January pump altcoins.

Solana ($SOL)

Solana ($SOL) has an exciting year ahead. It starts 23rd January with preliminary decisions by the SEC. That’s when Solana ETF approvals are due. First one up is Grayscale. They want their Solana Trust Fund converted into a Solana ETF. 

Only two days later, 25th January, four other big players have their first approval day with the SEC. VanEck, 21Shares, Canary, and Bitwise applied for a Solana ETF on 21st November 2024. The SEC formally accepted these applications on the same day. Now, within 45 days, the SEC must make an initial decision. That’s due on the 25th of January.

So, with a new SEC chair in place, it’s most likely too early to expect immediate approval. It might be a good introduction for Paul Atkins, the new SEC chair. He has three options for this Solana ETF. These are,

• Approve it.
• Reject it.
• Take more time to review the applications.
  

The last option is the most likely one. However, it may set the tone for the remainder of the year. We may see more ETF applications and, hopefully, also approvals.

Unless, of course, Gensler decides to reject them as a goodbye present. In that case, the applicants need to refile their applications.

Ondo Finance ($ONDO)

With Ondo Finance ($ONDO) we have one of the leading RWA protocols at hand. Currently, it ranks second behind Mantra ($OM). However, there are a few reasons why Ondo Finance can pump in January.

First, we have Trump’s World Liberty Financial DeFi platform. This platform bought for $250k worth $ONDO on 16th December 2024. So, to clarify this, the new US president bought this token. So far, WLFI only bought six different tokens. $ONDO is one of them.

Another reason is a massive token unlock that’s coming up for $ONDO. On 18th January, Ondo will unlock no less than 1.94 billion $ONDO tokens. At the current $ONDO price of $1.48, we’re looking at an unlock worth $2.85 billion. Now, at first, you expect the price to dump, after such an unlock, right? 

However, that’s also a great opportunity to buy the potential $ONDO dip. In case you already own $ONDO, make sure to sell your profits on 16th or 17th January. Check out my dedicated Ondo video from only 2 weeks ago.

ai16z ($AI16Z)

ai16z ($AI16Z) mimics a VC. It’s obvious which one, in this case. However, it does this as a DAO. Most importantly, though, ai16z is an AI agent. And an explosive one as well. Only a week ago, I had a video featuring four AI agents. ai16z was one of them. 

However, since that video came out, the $AI16Z price did a 2.3x in only seven days. It went from a $1 price to the current $2.37 price tag. It currently has a $2.6 billion market cap. 

Not only that, but it’s now also the fourth AI agent measured by market cap. The $AI16Z price is up by almost 600% in only one month. The end for $AI16Z is not in sight, and neither for other AI agents.

ai16z is part of the ElizaOS framework and is only one of its three AI agents. This agent goes by the name of Marc AIndreessen. For more background on ai16z, check my video from one week ago.

Sonic ($S)

With Sonic ($S), we go back a long while in DeFi. It’s also the last of my 4 altcoins picks for today. Although Sonic may not immediately ring a bell, I bet that Fantom for most of you will. That’s right, Fantom rebranded to Sonic. You can now upgrade your $FTM tokens 1:1 to the new $S token. There’s a special portal available for this.

There’s also an $S airdrop in the making. You could either build apps on Sonic or play three different games. The accumulated points should result in an $S airdrop. However, be aware that the qualification for this airdrop has already closed.

Some of the improvements that Sonic offers over Fantom are, for example,

• TPS (transactions per second) of 10k
• Sub second finality. In other words, transactions are almost instant.

Nonetheless, the real big news is the Binance listing of $S on 16th January. A Binance listing always seems to boost the price of newly listed tokens. Be prepared for an $S price boost.
