Bitcoin, Ether ETFs Shed $549M as October ETH Outflows Near $1B

US spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs lost a combined $549M in the week to 18 October, per SoSoValue data, with Ether funds down nearly $1B in October alone.

US spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs took $549 million in combined net outflows in the week ending around 18 October, per SoSoValue data, with Ether funds accounting for $320 million and Bitcoin funds $229 million.

That is a slower bleed than the prior week's $1.22 billion combined outflow, but the direction held: a second straight down week for Bitcoin funds and a third for Ether funds.

Bitcoin Funds Lose $229 Million in a Second Straight Down Week

Bitcoin ETFs' $229 million weekly withdrawal followed about $681 million the week before, leaving two-week redemptions near $910 million. The week was choppy. Farside Investors' daily tables show -$65.4 million on Monday 12 October, +$175.7 million on Tuesday, -$261.4 million on Wednesday, +$5.1 million on Thursday and -$82.4 million on Friday, a net of about -$228 million.

Tuesday's inflow was erased by Wednesday's redemption, the week's worst session. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust carried about $165 million of the category's outflow.

Ether's October Outflows Approach $1 Billion

Ether funds lost $320 million in the week, their third consecutive weekly withdrawal. Farside's Ether table shows daily totals of -$85.4 million, +$24.8 million, -$129.5 million, -$60.3 million and -$69.7 million across 12-16 October, a net near -$320 million.

For October, US spot Ether ETFs are down roughly $955 million, more than in any other month this year. Net inflows have come on only one day of the month, 13 October, at $24.8 million.

Smaller Fund Groups Moved the Same Way

Solana ETFs lost about $26 million in the week, Zcash $19 million and Hyperliquid $18 million, per SoSoValue data. XRP funds shed $1.8 million and BNB funds $285,000.

September Inflation Drove the Repricing

CoinShares put the week's selling down to US economic data rather than anything crypto-specific. Its global count of digital asset products was $434 million of outflows in the week to 16 October, a different scope from the US ETF figures above.

September CPI rose 0.6% month on month and 3.7% year on year, above a 3.6% consensus. Gasoline prices rose 9.1% over the month and accounted for around half the headline increase, while core inflation rose 0.3% on the month to 2.6% year on year.

Bitcoin fell below $80,000 on 15 October for the first time in over a month, and $948.22 million of leveraged positions were liquidated over 24 hours across 177,440 traders, 90.6% of them longs, per CoinGlass. The drop took Bitcoin below the average US spot ETF holder's estimated cost basis near $82,300. Markets still did not expect a Fed hike at the October meeting: Polymarket put the odds of no change at about 75% on 15 October.

Flows Stay Positive for the Year

Despite October's reversal, both categories remain in net inflows for 2026, at about $259 million for Bitcoin ETFs and $610 million for Ether ETFs. Since launching in January 2024, US spot Bitcoin ETFs have drawn $57.3 billion in cumulative net inflows.

October itself is negative for Bitcoin funds by about $615 million, after the month opened with roughly $293 million of inflows. Earlier in 2026 the same funds were still posting inflow streaks, which makes a two-week, $910 million redemption run the shift to watch.

The next signal is the flow tape itself: whether Ether funds post a second positive day this month, and whether Bitcoin funds stretch a two-week run of redemptions into a third.
