Lawyer Sues DHS to Unmask Bitcoin’s Creator

Crypto lawyer James Murphy—also known online as "MetaLawMan"—is taking on the U.S. government in a high-stakes legal move

Lawyer Sues DHS to Unmask Bitcoin’s Creator

Murphy has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

He’s demanding the agency come clean about who it believes is Bitcoin’s creator.

Murphy Wants DHS to Reveal Bitcoin Creator’s Identity

At the center of the lawsuit is a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that Murphy says DHS ignored. He wants the agency to release any documents it has on the identity of Bitcoin’s mysterious inventor, known only by the alias Satoshi Nakamoto.

Murphy’s legal filing points to a 2020 report from the Department of Justice, which listed “Satoshi Nakamoto” as the inventor of Bitcoin—not as a theory, but as a fact. This raised eyebrows across the crypto world, which has debated for years whether Satoshi is one person, a group, or even still alive.

In a post on social media, Murphy said, “If DHS has information about who created Bitcoin, the public has a right to know. It’s time to pull back the curtain.” For years, Satoshi’s true identity has been one of the biggest mysteries in tech and finance. And now, one lawyer is trying to force Uncle Sam to stop playing coy.

Lawsuit Pushes for Transparency on Bitcoin’s Mysterious Creator

Murphy believes the government may be holding key info that could change the crypto world overnight. If DHS does know who Satoshi is, it could shake up everything from legal cases to financial regulations.

Still, it’s a long road ahead. Even with the lawsuit filed, the government could claim that the information is classified or tied to national security. But Murphy isn’t backing down. He’s made a name for himself defending crypto companies and speaking out about government overreach.
