Privy Brings Embedded Wallets to the XRP Ledger for Agent Payments

Privy, acquired by Stripe, now lets developers create XRPL wallets and build agent payments.

Privy, the wallet company Stripe acquired in 2025, is bringing embedded wallets to the XRP Ledger. Its announcement says developers can create and manage XRPL wallets through Privy, and sign transactions on the ledger. They can also build with XRP, the RLUSD stablecoin and other assets on the network.

Embedded wallets are the kind a customer never opens. A payments company or fintech can offer stablecoin transfers without asking anyone to manage keys. Nobody has to buy XRP first or install a wallet app. Privy runs the infrastructure underneath. If a user wants to leave, the keys or the recovery phrase can be exported and taken elsewhere.

Markus Infanger, Ripple's SVP for RippleX, said Privy brings proven wallet infrastructure. It makes it easier for fintechs and developers to bring the XRP Ledger into real products, from payments to what the industry calls agentic commerce.

Stablecoins are changing how money moves, and XRPL has been building for payments from the start.

That is Henri Stern, Privy's cofounder and CEO, in the same announcement.

Agents Get a Wallet, and a Way to Pay for Data

The second half of the pitch is software. Privy says wallets operated from a company's servers can let agents hold and spend funds. One route is x402, a payment standard in which a server answers a request with an HTTP 402 code and the client pays before trying again. An agent buying a dataset pays per call, in fractions of a cent. No card, no signup.

That's the design decision worth noticing: the wallet is the account. Paying for something is another API call. Developers still get a say in how much freedom those wallets have. Privy lists policy controls, the rules that limit what a wallet can spend, and gas sponsorship, help covering users' network fees, as coming additions. Both give developers more control over how wallets transact, without adding work for their users.

Ripple Says Agents Are a Quarter of XRP Ledger Activity

The numbers behind the agent payments story are large, and hard to check. Ripple says the XRP Ledger has processed more than 13 million agent payments through x402. That is about 25% of the network's total activity. The figure comes from Ripple, and no outside party has verified it.

The public dashboards are more modest about value. The XRPL AI Hub, an open community of builders and agent services on the ledger, tracks payments settled at a seven-day average of 249,202 per day. It lists services priced between roughly 0.003 and 0.0055 RLUSD per call. Its ledger history shows individual agent payments of about 0.0005 to 0.0014 RLUSD. It names merchants such as Heurist Inference Router and AskSurf. It also lists buyers labelled Claw Credit and settlements marked "Unverified."

Counts of near-zero payments can climb into the millions without moving meaningful money. That is the open question the sector has carried since x402 activity on the ledger passed 10 million payments. Neither company named a launch partner or disclosed financial terms. Neither gave a customer list, wallet count or transaction volume for the integration.

Every New Wallet Needs 1 XRP Before It Moves Anything

Every new XRP Ledger account has to receive the network's minimum reserve of 1 XRP before it becomes active. That rule applies even to a wallet used only for stablecoin payments. Transaction fees on the ledger are paid in XRP and burned. Each fee is a fraction of a cent.

Neither company named XRP as the required settlement asset. A developer can route payments through RLUSD and skip XRP entirely. The reserve and the burned fees are the only direct lines from this integration back to XRP itself.

Ripple Has Been Building This Since June

Privy is the latest piece of a run that started earlier this year. Ripple began offering developers AI payment tools in June 2026. Agents could create wallets, check balances and pay for services in XRP or RLUSD. In September it widened the kit to support a payment standard built by Stripe and the payments blockchain Tempo. That included a way to fund repeated requests with XRP instead of settling each one separately. Stripe also said last month that developers could use the Open USD stablecoin with Privy embedded wallets.

Ripple has been pushing RLUSD into settlement flows too, including a test with Mastercard and Gemini. Privy credits the XRP Ledger with more than 8 million funded accounts. Privy also credits the ledger with $1 trillion in value moved over more than 14 years.

What comes next is mostly unglamorous engineering: policy controls, gas sponsorship and a developer base that has not been named. Until those transaction counts come with dollar values attached, they measure activity on the ledger, not demand for it.
