Cardano hits new decentralization record as Nakamoto coefficient reaches 16

Cardano's Nakamoto Coefficient has reached a record 16, signaling broader network decentralization as ADA price gains more than 20% in a week.

Cardano (ADA) has reached a new milestone in network decentralization after its Nakamoto Coefficient climbed to an all-time high of 16.

The metric measures how many independent entities would need to work together to disrupt or control a blockchain network. A higher Nakamoto Coefficient generally means that control is spread across more participants, making coordinated attacks more difficult.

According to data shared by blockchain analytics platform Chainspect, Cardano's Nakamoto Coefficient recently reached 16, marking its highest level so far.

What Does Cardano's Nakamoto Coefficient of 16 Mean?

The Nakamoto Coefficient is a metric used to estimate how decentralized a blockchain is.

It represents the minimum number of entities that would need to collude to disrupt a network or control enough of its consensus process to cause a major impact.

For proof-of-stake networks such as Cardano, a higher number generally indicates that network control is distributed across a wider group of participants.

Cardano reaching a Nakamoto Coefficient of 16 therefore suggests that at least 16 entities would need to coordinate to significantly disrupt the network, based on the methodology behind the metric.

This is important because greater distribution of control can make censorship, coordinated attacks and other forms of network disruption more difficult.

However, the Nakamoto Coefficient is only one measure of decentralization. It does not capture every factor that can affect a blockchain's security or governance.

Cardano Decentralization Reaches New High

The new record is a positive development for Cardano's long-term network structure.

A higher Nakamoto Coefficient suggests that Cardano's staking and validation ecosystem is becoming less dependent on a small number of entities. This can improve the network's resilience because control is distributed across more participants.

For Cardano users and developers, stronger decentralization can also support confidence in the network's ability to remain resistant to censorship and coordinated attacks.

The milestone comes as Cardano continues to develop several projects across its ecosystem, including Leios, Hydra, Mithril, Pyth integration and Project Catalyst.

ADA Price Gains More Than 20% in a Week

Cardano's network milestone comes alongside a strong recovery in ADA price.

ADA recently climbed to around $0.199, its highest level in roughly a month. The token had previously fallen to about $0.153 in July, meaning it has recovered nearly 30% from that recent low.

ADA Price Chart

Over the past week, ADA gained more than 20%, making it one of the stronger performers among major altcoins during the recent market recovery. The rally has also been supported by a sharp increase in derivatives activity, with ADA futures volume surging 380% in one week as traders positioned for a potential move toward the $0.20 level.

Santiment also highlighted Cardano's recent performance, pointing to continued ecosystem development as one factor supporting the recovery.

The price increase suggests that buyers have returned to the market, although broader retail participation remains less clear.

Cardano Wallet Count Falls Despite ADA Recovery

One unusual trend is the gap between ADA's rising price and Cardano's declining wallet count.

Blockchain data shows that Cardano currently has around 7,070 fewer non-empty wallets than it did two months ago.

A non-empty wallet is an address that holds some ADA or another asset. A decline in this number can suggest that smaller holders are becoming less active, even while the token price rises.

The divergence could mean that larger or more committed investors are absorbing available supply while retail participation remains relatively weak.

This does not necessarily mean that Cardano's recovery is at risk. However, a stronger return of smaller holders could provide additional evidence that demand is broadening across the market.

What Cardano's Decentralization Milestone Means for ADA

Cardano's record Nakamoto Coefficient provides a positive fundamental development at a time when ADA is also recovering from its recent lows.

A coefficient of 16 suggests that network control is distributed across a broader group of participants than before. At the same time, the recent ADA price increase shows renewed market interest.

However, investors will still need to watch whether the recovery can continue and whether wallet activity starts to improve.

For now, Cardano's record decentralization level is a positive network milestone, while ADA's price recovery gives the development additional attention from investors.
