Aave USDC ($aUSDC) Now Usable with MetaMask Card

MetaMask already had its MetaMask Card in place. You can spend $USDC, $USDT, $WETH, $EURe and $GBPe on the Linea network. However, now it added Aave $USDC. That’s where TradFi meets DeFi in real life. You can earn yield up to the moment you spend your $aUSDC.

So, what’s up with the MetaMask Card and Aave $USDC?

What’s Happening With the Metamask Card and $aUSDC?

The MetaMask Card already offered payments in USDC, $USDT, $WETH, $EURe and $GBPe on the Linea network. However, now it added Aave $USDC ($aUSDC). That’s big news for DeFi. This allows you to earn yield on your $aUSDC, until the moment you spend it.

Here’s how this works,

• Deposit your $USDC into Aave.
• Now you receive $aUSDC. This is an interest-bearing token.
• You can now spend your SaUSDC. Up until the very moment you buy something, you earn interest.

This way, you put your $USDC to work and you can earn a passive income. Now, if you’re interested in such a MetaMask Card, there’s an early access option.

However, be aware that currently the card is only available in a few countries. For now, these are,

• Argentina
• Brazil
• Colombia
• The EEA or the European Economic Area
• Mexico
• Switzerland
• The UK
• The US (excluding New York and Vermont)

However, a global rollout is in the planning. If you live in one of these territories, you can sign up and start spending your $USDC. Currently, Apple Pay and Google Pay are available. You can also join a waitlist, to stay updated for more rollouts.

MetaMask Metal Card

A physical Metal MetaMask Card is also coming soon. This will also start with a limited drop. You can also join a waitlist for this Metal MetaMask Card. Wherever they accept Mastercard, you can use the MetaMask Card. Either in real life or online.

One feature is that you can set spending limits. You can also choose the available tokens in your wallet that you want to use for payments. Once you make a transaction, the card converts your tokens into fiat. However, in the US, you can only use $USDC and $aUSDC.

There are no annual or maintenance fees. However, when you use $USDC or $USDT you need to pay the Linea gas fees, which are typically 2 cents per transaction. For non-stablecoin transactions, there’s a swap fee of 0.875%.
