Algorand-native USDC is taking a big step into everyday payments
This update means more than seven million people can now hold, send, and spend USDC on the Algorand network and pay at over 80 million merchants around the world that accept Visa.
The addition of Algorand-native USDC inside the Wirex wallet gives users a simple way to use a blockchain asset without needing to learn complex steps. People can buy or move USDC in the app and spend it through their Visa Card. The payment experience at stores or online remains the same for merchants, but behind the scenes the user is spending a digital dollar on the Algorand network.
Algorand is known for quick settlement and fees that are often just fractions of a cent. For stablecoin users, that speed can make a real difference. A recent report from Circle said stablecoin payments on fast networks cut transaction costs by more than 90% compared to some traditional routes. Savings like these help explain why more companies are adding stablecoins to their products.
A simple real world example shows the value. Imagine a freelancer who earns money from clients in different countries. Sending funds through banks can take days and include extra charges. With Algorand-native USDC in the Wirex wallet, the freelancer can receive money in seconds and use the Visa Card to pay for groceries or bills right away.
In November, Circle minted approximately $8 billion USDC on the Solana network. This reflects continued demand for the stablecoin across fast and low-cost blockchains. This issuance brings the total cumulative USDC minted on Solana in 2025 to $36.25 billion. This highlights both Solana’s growing role in the stablecoin ecosystem. Also, the broader adoption of USDC for payments, trading, and decentralized finance applications.
