Alphabet’s tokenized Class A stock (GOOGL) fell approximately 9.5% after the company reported third-quarter 2026 earnings that missed Wall Street expectations. The token was trading near $293.32 in the reported market snapshot as investors reacted to weaker-than-expected earnings, rising artificial intelligence (AI) investment, and negative free cash flow.
Alphabet reported revenue of $127.58 billion for the quarter ended September 30, up around 25% year over year but below analyst expectations. Earnings per share (EPS) came in at $2.12, compared with consensus estimates of approximately $3.01.
The results highlighted a growing challenge for the Google parent: demand for AI infrastructure is driving strong growth in its cloud business, but the cost of expanding that infrastructure is putting pressure on cash flow.
Alphabet misses Q3 earnings expectations
Alphabet’s third-quarter results fell short of expectations for both revenue and earnings.
The company reported $127.58 billion in revenue, while analysts had expected approximately $127.97 billion. EPS of $2.12 also missed the consensus estimate of around $3.01.
An $8.7 billion loss on equity investments contributed to the earnings shortfall, reducing EPS by approximately $0.55. Alphabet’s net income declined to $26.17 billion from $34.98 billion a year earlier.
Google Cloud delivered a stronger performance, with revenue increasing 103% to $30.71 billion. The division benefited from demand for AI infrastructure, enterprise AI services, and Google’s tensor processing units (TPUs).
However, investors also considered the results from Google’s advertising business. Search and other advertising revenue increased 12%, while YouTube advertising revenue grew 9%. Both figures raised questions about whether Alphabet can sustain its growth as AI changes how users search for information and interact with online services.
$51.4 billion in capital spending weighs on cash flow
Alphabet’s AI infrastructure investment was another major focus of the earnings report.
The company spent $51.4 billion on capital expenditures during the third quarter, reflecting investment in data centers, servers, networking equipment, and other infrastructure needed to support AI and cloud demand.
That spending contributed to negative free cash flow of $9.1 billion for the quarter. Free cash flow measures the cash remaining after capital expenditures are deducted from operating cash flow.
Alphabet has forecast full-year 2026 capital expenditures of $195 billion to $205 billion and expects investment to rise significantly in 2027.
The spending reflects Alphabet’s effort to expand computing capacity as businesses increasingly use its AI models and cloud services. Google Cloud’s strong revenue growth suggests that demand is real, but investors are also looking for evidence that the spending will generate sufficient returns.
This creates a tension in Alphabet’s financial outlook. Continued investment could support future revenue growth, while elevated infrastructure costs may weigh on cash generation and profitability in the near term.
Tokenized stocks continue expanding across blockchain networks
Alphabet is among the major technology companies whose shares are being represented through tokenized products. These assets are increasingly appearing across blockchain networks and trading platforms.
Altcoin Buzz recently covered how Coinbase launched tokenized US stocks on Base with Chainlink price feeds. The launch included tokenized exposure to Alphabet, Apple, Nvidia, and Meta for eligible users outside the United States. More recently, Robinhood Chain added eight tokenized stocks and ETFs, expanding the range of traditional assets available through its blockchain ecosystem.
These developments illustrate how tokenized equities are becoming part of the broader real-world asset market. Blockchain-based products can provide additional trading venues and potential integration with decentralized finance applications, although availability, legal rights, and liquidity depend on each product.
What to watch after Alphabet’s earnings miss
Alphabet’s next challenge is demonstrating that its substantial AI investment can translate into sustainable revenue and cash generation.
Investors will be watching Google Cloud growth, advertising performance, capital expenditure guidance, and the company’s ability to improve free cash flow as infrastructure spending increases.
For tokenized GOOGL, the immediate focus is whether the underlying stock stabilizes after the earnings-driven decline. The token’s price will generally remain linked to the referenced equity, subject to the issuer’s structure, market liquidity, and trading conditions.
The latest decline shows that strong AI demand alone may not satisfy investors when earnings miss expectations and infrastructure costs rise sharply. Alphabet’s longer-term performance will depend on whether its AI and cloud investments can deliver returns that justify the spending.
