Bitcoin slips to $77K as CLARITY Act Vote and Rising Oil Prices Keep Markets on Edge

Bitcoin is holding near $77,000 as the Senate prepares to vote on the CLARITY Act while surging oil prices and Treasury yields create fresh pressure for risk assets.

Bitcoin is holding near $78,000 as traders prepare for two major events that could shape the crypto market this week: the U.S. Senate's CLARITY Act vote and the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision.

BTC recently recovered toward the $79,000 area but remains below the $80,000 level. Bitcoin around $76,762 on September 15, while recent trading has kept the asset in the upper $70,000 range.

The market is now facing conflicting forces. Progress on crypto legislation could improve sentiment, while surging oil prices and Treasury yields are creating a tougher environment for risk assets.

Bitcoin Faces a Crucial CLARITY Act Vote

The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to advance the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act.

This is a procedural cloture vote, not a final vote on the legislation. The bill needs 60 votes to move forward, meaning Republicans cannot advance it without support from Democrats or independents.

The legislation would establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets and divide oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Senate Republicans released a revised version of the bill over the weekend after negotiations with Democrats. The updated text includes changes covering crypto ethics rules, stablecoin related concerns and other issues that had stalled negotiations. Reuters reported that the new draft contains 126 significant changes requested by Democrats.

However, it remains unclear whether those changes are enough to secure the 60 votes required.

What a CLARITY Act Vote Could Mean for Bitcoin

A successful procedural vote would not immediately make the CLARITY Act law.

Instead, it would allow the Senate to continue considering the legislation, including further debate and amendments. Still, advancing the bill would signal that lawmakers are moving closer to establishing a federal framework for the crypto industry.

That could provide a positive sentiment boost for Bitcoin and other digital assets.

A failed vote would create a different reaction. Markets could interpret it as another delay for comprehensive crypto legislation, although some industry executives believe regulatory clarity could still emerge through agency rulemaking.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has argued that the SEC and CFTC are prepared to publish their own rules even if Congress fails to pass the legislation.

That means the vote is important, but it may not be the only route toward greater regulatory clarity.

Oil Prices Add Another Problem for Bitcoin

While Washington is providing a potential crypto catalyst, energy markets are creating a significant macroeconomic headwind.

U.S. crude prices have climbed above $103 per barrel, while Brent crude has moved above $107. The increase follows renewed geopolitical tensions and concerns about disruptions to global oil supplies.

Higher oil prices can increase inflation pressure.

That matters for Bitcoin because persistent inflation could make it harder for the Federal Reserve to ease monetary policy. Markets are already expecting another rate hike this week.

The increase in oil prices has also pushed Treasury yields sharply higher.

The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield moved above 5.02%, reaching its highest level since 2007.

That creates a difficult environment for Bitcoin because higher yields can make traditional fixed-income assets more attractive while reducing appetite for riskier assets.

Fed Rate Hike Expectations Are Rising

The Federal Reserve's September decision is the second major event facing Bitcoin this week.

Markets are expecting a 25 basis-point rate hike, with the federal funds target range potentially moving to 3.75% - 4%.

More importantly, traders are watching what Fed officials say about future policy.

Current market pricing puts the probability of a rate hike at roughly 93%, according to CME FedWatch data cited by Reuters.

That means the rate increase itself may already be largely priced into Bitcoin.

The bigger risk is a hawkish message.

If Fed officials signal that higher oil prices and persistent inflation could require additional tightening, Treasury yields and the dollar could rise further.

That could put additional pressure on Bitcoin even if the CLARITY Act produces a positive surprise.

Bitcoin's $77K - $80K Range Is in Focus

Bitcoin's current position leaves traders watching a relatively narrow range.

BTC has recovered significantly from its late-August lows around $60,000 and recently pushed above $80,000. Reuters noted that Bitcoin's options market has become more optimistic, with traders positioning for a possible move toward $80,000 or higher later this year.

However, the recovery has not yet produced a sustained breakout.

The $79,000 - $80,000 area remains an important resistance zone. A decisive move above $80,000 could strengthen the recovery and open the door to higher levels.

On the downside, the $77,000 area is becoming an important short-term support zone.

A sustained break below $77,000 could indicate that macro pressure is overwhelming the bullish effect of the regulatory catalyst.

By contrast, holding above $77,000 while reclaiming $79,000 would keep the recovery structure intact.

XRP and Other Major Cryptocurrencies Also React

Bitcoin is not the only major cryptocurrency responding to the uncertainty.

XRP remains particularly sensitive to the CLARITY Act because the legislation could provide greater certainty around digital-asset classifications and the respective roles of the SEC and CFTC.

Ethereum and Solana are also trading with the broader market as investors wait for the Senate vote and Fed decision.

The outcome could therefore affect the entire large-cap crypto market rather than Bitcoin alone.

A positive legislative surprise could trigger a broad relief rally. A failed vote combined with hawkish Fed guidance could instead push traders toward defensive positioning.

What Should Bitcoin Traders Watch Next?

Bitcoin is entering a critical period with the price near $78,000 and several major catalysts arriving almost simultaneously.

The Senate's CLARITY Act vote could provide a regulatory boost, but rising oil prices and Treasury yields are creating an opposing force.

The immediate technical levels are now $77,000 on the downside and $79,000 - $80,000 on the upside.

A sustained move above $80,000 would strengthen the bullish recovery and show that traders are absorbing the macro pressure.

A break below $77,000 would weaken the short-term structure and could expose Bitcoin to a deeper correction.

For now, Bitcoin's next major move could depend on the interaction between Washington's crypto legislation, the Federal Reserve's rate decision and the rapidly changing oil and bond markets.

The CLARITY Act offers a potential bullish catalyst, but the macro backdrop means Bitcoin bulls still have a difficult test ahead.
