Bitcoin ETF Demand Explodes as Weekly Inflows Reach $1.92 Billion

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $1.92 billion in weekly inflows, their strongest performance since October 2025, as Bitcoin surged toward $79,000 and BlackRock's IBIT led institutional demand.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $1.92 billion in net inflows during the week ended August 21, marking their strongest weekly performance since October 2025. The surge in institutional demand came as Bitcoin rallied more than 20% and briefly moved above $79,000.

The sharp reversal in ETF flows adds another bullish signal to Bitcoin's recent recovery, although the funds remain in negative territory for 2026 overall.

Bitcoin ETFs See Biggest Weekly Inflow Since October

According to SoSoValue data, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted approximately $1.92 billion during the five trading sessions through August 21. The result represents the strongest weekly inflow since the major buying wave in October 2025.

The renewed demand coincided with Bitcoin's powerful rally. BTC started the week around $63,000 before climbing more than 20% and briefly approaching $79,000.

ETF analyst Nate Geraci also highlighted the strength of the latest institutional demand, noting that spot Ether ETFs attracted roughly $700 million during the same week. Both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs recorded their strongest weekly inflows since October 2025.

The move marks a significant change from the inconsistent flows seen throughout much of 2026.

Bitcoin ETFs Still Face a 2026 Outflow

Despite the strong August rebound, Bitcoin ETFs have not completely recovered from the heavy withdrawals recorded earlier this year.

The funds remain approximately $2.91 billion in net outflows for 2026, with June accounting for some of the largest withdrawals. August, however, has become the strongest month for ETF inflows so far this year.

The latest weekly inflow also needs to be viewed against the much larger buying wave seen in October 2025. That month preceded the October 10 crypto market crash, which triggered one of the largest liquidation events in crypto history.

An X post highlighting the historical context of Bitcoin ETF buying and the latest inflow surge is available below.

Bitcoin has also fallen substantially from its October 2025 record near $124,700, meaning the latest ETF demand is arriving after a significant correction.

BlackRock's IBIT Leads the Recovery

BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) was responsible for a large portion of the latest ETF resurgence.

According to Farside Investors data, IBIT attracted approximately $1.33 billion across five consecutive trading sessions. Daily inflows accelerated from about $160 million early in the week to more than $500 million later in the rally.

The concentration of inflows into IBIT suggests that institutional investors are once again increasing exposure through the largest spot Bitcoin ETF rather than relying exclusively on direct BTC purchases.

Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas also pointed to the unusual pattern in IBIT's daily flows. He described it as a “classic Flipping the Bird pattern” and interpreted the setup as a bullish signal.

What the ETF Surge Means for Bitcoin

The return of nearly $2 billion in weekly ETF inflows is important because it shows that institutional demand is strengthening alongside Bitcoin's price recovery.

The broader rally has also been supported by improving liquidity expectations, the U.S. Treasury's expanded long-term bond buyback program and renewed optimism surrounding U.S. crypto regulation. Bitcoin subsequently recorded its largest weekly dollar gain on record, rising approximately $14,264 during the week.

However, ETF inflows alone do not guarantee that Bitcoin's rally will continue. After such a rapid move, profit-taking and elevated derivatives positioning could create additional volatility.

For now, the combination of strong ETF demand, rising Bitcoin prices and renewed institutional participation provides one of the clearest bullish signals seen in the market in months.

The key question is whether the $1.92 billion weekly inflow marks the beginning of a sustained return of institutional capital or simply a reaction to Bitcoin's latest breakout.
