Bitget Opens Brokerage Transfers for 3,000+ US Stocks as rTokens

Bitget now converts 3,000+ US stocks and ETFs sent from brokers into rTokens. How the transfer works, what holders give up, and the open questions.

Bitget now accepts more than 3,000 eligible US-listed stocks and ETFs transferred in from outside brokerage accounts. It converts each share into a tokenized version it calls an rToken. Transfers in are free and take about 10 business days, per the exchange's October 13 announcement. Transfers out incur a fee, and that release gives no amount.

The pitch is utility. Eligible rTokens can be used in spot trading, margin, borrowing, lending and yield products, subject to Bitget's terms and per-asset eligibility. The catch is in the product pages: the token is not the share.

How a Brokerage Share Becomes an rToken

Bitget describes a two-step process:

  1. The user starts a Free of Payment (FOP) transfer, a move of securities with no cash leg, from their external broker to Bitget's designated Alpaca omnibus account. An omnibus account pools many clients' holdings under one name.
  2. Once the shares are received and processed, Bitget's In-Kind Tokenization Network (ITN) converts them into matching rTokens and credits them to the user's spot account.

The tokens are issued through Reality, Bitget's real-world asset platform. By July 6, rToken assets under management stood at about $114 million, with more than two million cumulative transactions, according to Bitget. Both figures come from the exchange alone and are three months older than the transfer feature.

What an rToken Gives You, and What It Does Not

Bitget's product page for rTTEK, its tokenized Tetra Tech stock, spells out the structure behind one rToken:

  • Holding the token does not make you a direct shareholder and grants no voting rights.
  • The underlying shares sit in custody with a broker under the issuer's name, not yours.
  • The custodian is Alpaca Securities, a FINRA-registered broker covered by SIPC.
  • The Network Firm independently verifies the stock holdings Reality keeps in custody.
  • The token runs on the Arbitrum chain, and the issuer is based in El Salvador.
  • Dividends carry a flat 30% US withholding tax for foreign investors.

Two limits apply. These details come from a single product's page, and the transfer announcement does not restate them for shares sent in from a broker. The SIPC line also describes the custodian. The page does not say how that coverage applies to an individual rToken holder when the shares are registered to the issuer.

Margin Use and the Friday Close

Bitget's spot market lists over 500 rTokens, trading 24 hours a day, five days a week, with some pairs open 24/7. The tokens can also count as combined margin in Bitget's unified trading account and USDT-M futures.

The weekend rule matters for anyone using them that way. Collateral value stays pegged to the last price before the US market closes on Friday. A crypto position can move all weekend while the stock collateral behind it does not, and Monday's open can reprice that collateral in one step.

CEO Gracy Chen said eligible assets can eventually serve a wider range of purposes, including as collateral for other trading activities. That is a stated direction, not a live feature.

There is also a gap between the two numbers Bitget uses. More than 3,000 assets can be transferred in, but just over 500 rTokens are listed for spot trading. Bitget's material does not say whether every transferred stock will get a tradable pair.

The Launch Bonus Pays a Flat 4%

Bitget is paying first-time transfers in rSPCX, a tokenized SpaceX product. A first eligible transfer of $5,000 qualifies for $200 in rSPCX, while $20,000 and $50,000 transfers qualify for $800 and $2,000, along with trading fee rebate vouchers.

Worked out, each tier pays 4% of the transfer value, so the bonus grows with size but the rate does not. The full campaign terms were not reviewed for this article.

Open Questions Before Sending Shares

The announcement leaves several points a holder would want settled first:

  • The size of the transfer-out fee.
  • Whether rTokens can be redeemed back into real shares at an outside broker. Bitget says transfers out are possible but does not describe the process.
  • Which brokers, account types and regions are eligible, and which stocks are on the 3,000-asset list.
  • Whether a given stock has a spot pair once it arrives.

Until those are answered, the confirmed trade-off is simple. A share moved to Bitget gains a margin and lending use on a crypto exchange, and gives up direct registration and the vote.
