Can Worldcoin Reach Its 2024 Peaks Again?

When Satoshi launched Bitcoin, the goal was to create a currency without banks that was transparent yet private for users.

Can Worldcoin Reach Its 2024 Peaks Again?

Just a decade and a half later, Bitcoin now has a market cap in the trillions of dollars.

Over 20,000 tokens are competing for their place in the market. Is it possible that Worldcoin can repeat what it did in 2024?

Capturing A Niche In Crypto

There are a whole host of different projects, with some a lot more promising than others. It’s fair to say that Sam Altman is putting his money where his mouth is and has faith that his Worldcoin project has legs. While it might not have the same crossover appeal as Bitcoin casinos currently do, some analysts and experts remain pretty bullish on WLD.

Over the last two years, the rise of Bitcoin casinos has highlighted just how much potential there is within this growing niche of the crypto world. Not only do these platforms utilize the blockchain to ensure that all transactions are publicly available and logged, but by allowing users to deposit with their Bitcoin, they remove some of the more quarrelsome issues that arise in traditional online casinos.

A Bitcoin casino showcases all the same types of card-based games and slot games. Still, by leveraging digital assets, they are branching out to a new potential audience and building a bridge whereby people can use their assets in casino gaming markets that they are already familiar with.

The only difference is that they’re using Bitcoin rather than conventional assets, and such is the popularity of these platforms that they offer a broad range of tools that casino gamers can use, from poker players looking for tips to refine their live and online poker strategies, to offering comprehensive slot gaming options.

Does Worldcoin (WLD) Capture A Niche?

I mean, it’s got the might and capital of Sam Altman behind it, one of the leading figures in the world of AI. While the project has been around since 2019, there have been recent moves that have resulted in significant, positive price action. The project raised $135 million at the end of May, causing the price to soar by almost 25%.

The aim of Worldcoin is for people to use their iris as a form of ID, a fusion between a passport and a biometric scan. Ideally, Worldcoin is aiming to onboard millions of people who want to use their iris as a form of ID, and, in the long run, as a means to make payments and send UBI (Universal Basic Income) payments if the project gathers enough momentum and onboards enough people.

For the last 18 months, AI has been talked about as a potential narrative for the bull run, and it’s not a narrative that has dissipated now that the bull run is upon us and Bitcoin is hitting record highs.

Altman is arguably the most well-known figurehead in the global AI industry at the moment. While this isn’t for Worldcoin, it’s still a relatively unknown project in comparison to his prized asset, ChatGPT, which is valued somewhere in the region of $300 billion, a figure that has doubled in less than a year.

If he decides to carve off some of his ChatGPT capital and move it into Worldcoin, even a 2% switch of capital could result in a colossal price increase, which could see it double or triple from its current range of $1.

Alt Season Or Altman Season?

If you’ve been around in the crypto space long enough, you will know that there are people predicting alt season every other week. Yes, there’s a lot more longevity and mileage out of this belief now that Bitcoin is ploughing past $120,000 and Ethereum is actually beginning to wake up again.

However, it’s a different dynamic from the market in 2017 and 2021; there are infinitely more coins and, in theory, the whole concept of Worldcoin is the total antithesis of why Bitcoin was created in the first place.

The concept of a global digital identity that scans your iris is likely the first aspect of the blockchain and cryptocurrency’s original ethos that you’ll encounter. However, as is the concept of traditional finance, like BlackRock buying up billions of dollars of it. The game has changed, and narratives like AI and financial powerhouses are driving a lot of the narrative.

For this reason alone, and not much else, we’d say that Worldcoin is going to revisit a region somewhere in the $3 to $4 region. Still, if it comes out of crypto regulation favorably in the US and Sam Altman begins turning his attention to it, then the previous all-time high of around $12 could be in sight. It’s going to take a lot to get to this level again, but if previous bull runs and alt seasons have taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected.
