ZEC recently climbed above $814, surpassing its January 2018 peak. The rally has pushed Zcash’s market capitalization to roughly $13.7 billion, according to the figures in the source material. The biggest catalyst behind the Zcash price surge is Grayscale’s planned conversion of its Zcash Trust into a spot ETF.
Grayscale announced that the shares are expected to begin trading on NYSE Arca around August 25, 2026, under the ticker ZCSH, subject to regulatory conditions. The trust is also expected to be renamed the Grayscale Zcash ETF.
The SEC filing shows that the proposed fund is designed to provide investors with exposure to ZEC without requiring them to directly hold the cryptocurrency. Coinbase Custody is listed as the custodian, while the fund is intended to trade under the ZCSH ticker on NYSE Arca.
The potential ETF launch has therefore created a new institutional demand narrative around Zcash, similar to the broader trend of crypto assets gaining exposure through traditional financial markets.

The recent rally has sparked a much larger question: Can Zcash flip XRP by market capitalization?
For now, the gap remains substantial. The figures provided put XRP's market capitalization at approximately $93.45 billion, compared with around $13.74 billion for Zcash.
That means Zcash would need to increase its market value by several times to reach XRP's current level.
However, Zcash's limited maximum supply of 21 million ZEC makes the theoretical calculation interesting. If Zcash reached a $93.45 billion market capitalization while maintaining its current supply structure, the implied price would be around $5,538 per ZEC.
That would represent an enormous increase from the current price and should be viewed as a mathematical scenario rather than a near-term price prediction.
XRP's much larger circulating supply also means the two assets have very different market structures. A comparison based purely on token price would therefore be misleading.
The Zcash rally is also putting financial privacy back into focus.
Mert Mumtaz, CEO of blockchain infrastructure company Helius, has argued for greater financial privacy and has publicly supported the idea of encrypting money. The latest Zcash rally has amplified those discussions as investors reassess the potential demand for privacy-focused digital assets.
The upcoming ETF could provide a significant test of that demand. If ZCSH attracts strong trading volume and sustained inflows after its launch, it could strengthen the case for Zcash as an institutional crypto asset.
At the same time, Zcash is also preparing for network upgrades aimed at improving its long-term security, including work related to quantum resistance.
Zcash's move above $800 represents a major technical milestone, but the next phase could depend heavily on what happens after the ETF begins trading.
The market has already priced in considerable optimism surrounding the NYSE Arca listing. Strong institutional demand could provide another catalyst, while weaker-than-expected ETF activity could trigger profit-taking after ZEC's explosive rally.
