Chainlink Oracles Go Live on Stellar as RWA Value Hits $3.5 Billion

Chainlink Data Feeds and Data Streams are live on Stellar, as the Stellar Development Foundation covers oracle costs for $3.5 billion in RWAs.

Stellar's smart contracts can now check prices before acting on them. Chainlink's Data Feeds and Data Streams are live on the Stellar mainnet, Stellar's blog says. For a lending market, that's the difference between holding tokenized Treasury bills and being able to lend against them.

The post describes the change in developer terms: teams "have access to the market data needed to launch secure lending markets, prediction markets, perpetual futures, and other innovative onchain financial applications."

Johann Eid, chief business officer at Chainlink Labs, called it the point where the ecosystem gets a foundation to build on.

"The Stellar network's adoption of Chainlink as its data infrastructure unlocks a new generation of DeFi and tokenized asset applications across its ecosystem."

What Stellar's Builders Get

Data Feeds and Data Streams both bring outside market data to contracts on Stellar. Stellar's blog says leading applications in the ecosystem are adopting them at launch for collateral processing, loan-to-value calculations, automated liquidations and stablecoin reference rates.

Those jobs all rest on the same input. A contract can hold a tokenized asset, but it needs someone to say what that asset is worth, and a way to check the answer without asking a person. Raja Chakravorti, chief business officer at the Stellar Development Foundation, framed the shift this way:

"As these layers mature together, the opportunity shifts from simply issuing assets onchain to putting them to work."

Who Pays for the Prices

Chainlink's Scale program is why this shipped without a bill landing on every developer. Scale lets a blockchain or layer-2 network cover the operating costs of Chainlink's oracle networks, transaction gas fees among them, for a period of time.

Stellar had already said it planned to join Scale and adopt Data Feeds, Data Streams and Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, or CCIP. The launch post says it delivers on that Scale announcement.

The arrangement is temporary by design. Chainlink's own description says that as ecosystems in Scale mature, the operating costs of the oracle networks can increasingly transition toward being fully covered by fees from the applications using them. Stellar's posts frame its commitment as covering running costs, and do not put a dollar figure on it.

The $3.5 Billion Question

The number travelling with this launch is real, but it belongs to a tracker rather than to the launch itself. RWA.xyz, in a snapshot dated October 14, puts Stellar fourth among blockchains by RWA value at $3.5 billion across 60 assets. Ethereum leads at $17.0 billion, BNB Chain sits at $5.9 billion and Solana at $4.4 billion. Avalanche's C-Chain is at $1.7 billion, and the XRP Ledger at $496.6 million.

Stellar's own blog uses a larger figure, "$4+ billion in RWAs," and links a Dune dashboard for it. The two numbers come from different sources with different cut-offs, so $3.5 billion is the tracker's number and $4 billion is Stellar's.

The network breakdown shows where the value sits:

Platform

RWA value on Stellar

Spiko

$1.8 billion

Ondo

$537.4 million

Franklin Templeton Benji Investments

$534.9 million

Realiz

$500.0 million

Circle

$402.3 million

Spiko alone accounts for $1.8 billion across nine assets, about half the tracker's total for the network. Below the top five, the list includes WisdomTree at $40.6 million, Centrifuge at $29.5 million and NYALA at $26.9 million.

What the Launch Does Not Cover

The word worth handling carefully is "wake up." The assets were already on Stellar. What the oracle layer changes is what contracts can do with them, not how much value sits there.

The earlier Stellar post also planned CCIP as part of the same integration, alongside Data Feeds and Data Streams. Today's announcement confirms the two data products as live on Stellar. It does not announce CCIP as live.

The test from here is use, not availability. If lending markets on Stellar start pricing collateral through Chainlink, these figures start describing a market rather than a stock of assets. Stellar's post points to a Dune dashboard for its own number, and RWA.xyz keeps the network breakdown.
