DogeOS Opens Testnet With 11 Dogecoin Apps in Sight

DogeOS has opened an EVM-compatible testnet for DOGE apps. Here is what works now, what is unverified and what comes before mainnet.

DogeOS opened its public testnet on September 30, giving developers an EVM-compatible environment for building with DOGE. The network works, but most of the announced applications remain plans rather than confirmed, usable products.

That distinction matters because the project is presenting a new application layer for Dogecoin, not a change to the Dogecoin blockchain itself.

The Testnet Is Live

The DogeOS announcement describes an application layer where developers can use tools compatible with Ethereum virtual machines, or EVMs. DOGE is the network's native transaction-fee token, although users need test DOGE rather than the asset traded on markets.

There is working access to the testnet. DogeOS's contract deployment guide provides a public RPC endpoint and instructions for deploying a contract through Foundry. Its test-token faucet says users can claim test DOGE once every 24 hours.

That proves the network can accept contract deployments. It does not show how much demand it has attracted.

11 Apps Have Been Named

DogeOS listed applications covering finance, trading and games:

  • Barkswap, a liquidity engine
  • Superposition Finance, a protocol for lending Dogecoin
  • Derps, a perpetual exchange
  • Split Markets, an options platform offering non-liquidatable options
  • USDoge, a CDP-based stablecoin
  • Snag, a prediction-market aggregator
  • Anoncoin and Starbase, both launchpads
  • Games from Doge Escape, PlaysOut and DogeFundMe

The list gives Dogecoin users something concrete to watch. It does not prove that each product is deployed, funded or ready to use. DogeOS said availability and features depend on each team's development schedule.

No working deployments or user activity for the named apps were confirmed for the testnet. Transaction counts and active-user figures were also unavailable.

Apps Depend on Trusted Operators

DogeOS is designed as a zero-knowledge rollup that settles its state to Dogecoin. Today, Dogecoin itself does not verify the rollup's zero-knowledge proofs.

The current setup relies on validators, a trusted execution environment and a permissioned sequencer. The sequencer determines transaction order. A Security Council oversees the system.

That means the testnet is not yet secured directly by Dogecoin miners. Users of future applications would depend on the selected validators and hardware to maintain correct records. The design may offer a route to more direct verification later, but that route still depends on work inside Dogecoin.

A Dogecoin Core proposal called OP_CHECKZKP, published in July 2025, would allow computers running Dogecoin to check zero-knowledge proofs. A separate implementation submitted that December remains a draft and uses a placeholder proof checker. Neither the proposal nor its implementation has an activation date.

There Is No Mainnet Date

DogeOS founder and CEO Jordan Jefferson said the team would share a mainnet timeline as it reached development milestones. No date has been set.

The absence of a date is reasonable for a testnet project, but it also leaves several important questions open. It is not clear when applications will launch, who will control early operations, or when Dogecoin miners will be able to verify DogeOS proofs directly.

There is some precedent for caution. Financial applications associated with Dogechain now hold less than $300, while those on Shibium hold about $140,000. Shibium's figure is down from a peak near $6.4 million, according to DeFiLlama data cited in a review of the DogeOS launch.

What Would Prove Progress

A public testnet is the starting point, not proof of a revived Dogecoin economy. The next useful evidence would be simple:

  • Active applications that users can access on the testnet
  • Contract deployments, transaction counts and retained testnet liquidity
  • Clear security and governance arrangements
  • A working plan for Dogecoin miners to verify the rollup's proofs
  • A published mainnet schedule

DogeOS has given developers a place to build. Now it needs users, applications and measurable activity before the Dogecoin ecosystem story moves beyond announcement.
