Eclipse Launches Ethereum-Solana Hybrid Blockchain

Eclipse, a new blockchain project, launched its mainnet on November 7, making waves in the crypto world

Eclipse Launches Ethereum-Solana Hybrid Blockchain

It’s the first Ethereum Layer-2 (L2) network powered by Solana, combining the strengths of both blockchains.

Before its launch, Eclipse raised over $65 million in funding, drawing attention from major investors.

Eclipse Combines Ethereum and Solana for Faster, Cheaper Transactions

So, what does Eclipse do? It helps people use Ethereum faster and at a lower cost by using Solana’s technology, called the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM), to handle transactions. Like other Ethereum L2 networks, Eclipse bundles multiple transactions together and settles them on the Ethereum mainnet, making things smoother and quicker.

Eclipse has already attracted popular projects like Orca, an automated market maker, and Save, a lending protocol, which will be part of the network. The project also launched with 60 decentralized applications (DApps) across different sectors, including decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, and consumer apps. “Our goal is to empower developers from both ecosystems to build and scale their DApps like never before,” said Eclipse CEO Vijay Chetty.

One of Eclipse’s standout features is that it connects Ethereum-based apps with native Solana apps. This “best of both worlds” approach allows developers and users to interact across two of the largest networks in the blockchain space.

More About Eclipse

The project got off to a solid start with a $50 million Series A funding round led by Placeholder and Hack VC in March 2024. In total, Eclipse raised $65 million with support from investors like Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz, and blockchain expert ZachXBT.
