Fed Raises Rates 25 Basis Points as Bitcoin Holds Near $75,700

The Federal Reserve raised rates by 25 basis points to 3.75% - 4%, its first hike since July 2023, while Bitcoin remained near $75,700 after a volatile reaction.

The U.S. Federal Reserve has raised its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points, taking the federal funds target range to 3.75% - 4%.

The move was widely expected and marks the Fed's first-rate hike since July 2023. The decision was unanimous.

Bitcoin initially moved sharply after the announcement but quickly stabilized near $75,700, leaving BTC little changed from its level before the decision. U.S. stocks moved modestly higher, while Treasury yields edged lower.

Fed Signals One More 2026 Hike

The Federal Open Market Committee said economic activity continues to expand at a solid pace, while inflation remains elevated.

The Fed's latest projections also point to one additional rate hike in 2026.

That guidance is important for Bitcoin because markets had already largely priced in Wednesday's 25-basis-point increase. The bigger question is now how long rates will remain elevated and whether further tightening will be needed.

The Fed said its latest action is intended to support a return of inflation toward its 2% target.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is scheduled to address reporters at 2:30 p.m. ET, where his comments could provide further clues about the policy outlook.

Bitcoin Reacts with Limited Immediate Move

Bitcoin was volatile immediately after the decision but remained around $75,700 shortly afterward.

The muted reaction suggests traders may have already accounted for the rate increase.

The bigger market catalyst could be Warsh's press conference and how investors interpret the projection for another hike.

Higher interest rates generally create tighter financial conditions for risk assets, including cryptocurrencies. However, a less aggressive outlook could reduce some of that pressure.

The Fed decision also comes just one day after the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, removing another potential near-term regulatory catalyst for the crypto market. CLARITY Act Fails Key Senate Vote as Crypto Bill Stalls

What Comes Next for Bitcoin?

Bitcoin now faces a more complicated macro backdrop.

The Fed has raised rates, but the market's focus is shifting toward the central bank's forward guidance. One more hike in 2026 would keep borrowing costs elevated and could continue to pressure liquidity-sensitive assets.

At the same time, Bitcoin has already fallen sharply from recent highs, meaning the immediate reaction to the Fed could depend heavily on how much of the tightening cycle is already priced in.

The next major signal will come from Warsh's press conference.

For now, Bitcoin remains near $75,700 as traders assess whether the Fed's latest hike marks the beginning of a longer tightening phase or the final stages of the current rate cycle.
