FTX-Linked Wallets Transfer $75M in Ether to Wintermute

27,373 ETH, worth about $75M, moved from FTX and Alameda-labeled wallets to market maker Wintermute on Wednesday.

Wallets labeled as belonging to the FTX bankruptcy estate and Alameda Research transferred 27,373 ether, worth about $75 million, to crypto market maker Wintermute on Wednesday, according to on-chain analyst EmberCN.

The bulk of the move arrived as a single 23,639 ETH transfer, valued near $65 million, flagged earlier in the day by PeckShieldAlert. The gap between the two prints is scope: PeckShield caught the largest leg, while EmberCN's tally covered six wallets traced on the Arkham intelligence platform for a combined 27,372 ETH.

The largest recipient sits labeled "Wintermute" on Etherscan. A transfer to a market maker or over-the-counter desk typically signals that a holder wants to sell or hedge a large position without routing it directly to a public exchange, where a visible order could move price. That does not guarantee a sale: Wintermute could hold the ether as inventory, hedge exposure, or work it out over time. On-chain data shows no outbound sale from the receiving wallet.

The transfers land as the FTX Recovery Trust runs its creditor-distribution program. A $2.2 billion payout, the fourth under the Chapter 11 plan, is planned for March. The Trust has not publicly commented on the Wednesday move, and Wintermute did not respond to a request for confirmation. Two questions stay open: whether the ether is tied to the March distribution, and whether Wintermute will ultimately sell, hedge, or warehouse it.

What happens next?

A market-maker route is a setup, not a transaction. The chart says what it says. Here is what would prove it wrong: an FTX Recovery Trust statement tying the wallets to creditor distributions at par, an outbound Wintermute transfer to a known exchange address, or an ether sell-pressure print on a major venue's order book.
