Hunter Biden to Launch LAPTOP Memecoin with Airdrops for TRUMP Investors
Hunter Biden is launching the LAPTOP memecoin on Base on September 9, with 200 million tokens reserved for airdrops including eligible investors who lost money on TRUMP.

Hunter Biden is set to launch a new memecoin called LAPTOP, turning the controversy surrounding his infamous laptop into a cryptocurrency project that will also target investors who lost money on Donald Trump’s TRUMP token.
The token is scheduled to launch on September 9 on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer 2. Hunter Biden confirmed the ticker and launch date on X on September 7 after The Wall Street Journal first reported details of the project.
LAPTOP will have a 1 billion token supply, with 20% earmarked for two airdrop programs. One of the most unusual parts of the distribution is the plan to allocate tokens to eligible TRUMP investors who lost money on the memecoin.
LAPTOP Targets TRUMP Investors
According to the reported token distribution, 200 million LAPTOP tokens, or 20% of the total supply, will be allocated through airdrops.
The first group includes eligible wallets that lost money on TRUMP, alongside subscribers to Hunter Biden’s Substack and a mailing list operated by video journalist Andrew Callaghan. A second 100 million-token allocation is reserved for future distributions.
The connection to TRUMP is particularly notable.
Trump's memecoin reached an all-time high of about $73.43 in January 2025, but has since fallen sharply. By September 2026, the token was trading around $2.25, according to CoinGecko data cited by Unchained. Nansen previously estimated that roughly two-thirds of wallets that purchased TRUMP were underwater.
That makes LAPTOP's airdrop more than a conventional memecoin distribution. It directly targets a group of traders who have already experienced losses from another politically themed cryptocurrency.
The Laptop Controversy Becomes a Token
The LAPTOP name refers to the computer associated with Hunter Biden that became a major political controversy before the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
Hunter Biden's involvement in the project gives LAPTOP an unusual connection between political controversy, cryptocurrency and memecoin culture.
The project is also arriving at a time when political figures and their families have become increasingly involved in crypto. Trump launched TRUMP before his 2025 inauguration, while businesses associated with the Trump family have expanded into digital assets.
Hunter Biden has meanwhile become increasingly vocal about cryptocurrency. He has previously described decentralized digital currencies and blockchain technology as an inevitable part of the future while criticizing the Trump family's crypto businesses.
That makes LAPTOP both a memecoin launch and a direct response to the political crypto economy that has developed around Trump.
Founders Control 30% of LAPTOP
The tokenomics give the founders, including Hunter Biden, 30% of the one-billion-token supply.
Those tokens will reportedly be locked for six months before being released gradually over more than two years. Another 20% is allocated toward areas including liquidity, charity, market-making, exchange-related expenses and other operational costs.
LAPTOP also includes an unusual mechanism that could permanently remove as much as 30% of the total supply.
The project has linked potential token burns to predefined events, including Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high, LAPTOP's fully diluted valuation surpassing TRUMP's and a Democrat winning the 2028 presidential election.
This structure makes the token's supply partly dependent on future political and market outcomes.
Traders Are Already Speculating
The token has not officially launched yet, but speculation around the LAPTOP name has already begun.
Following the announcement, copycat tokens appeared across networks including Base, Robinhood Chain and Solana.
That creates an additional risk for traders. Because the official token is not scheduled to launch until September 9, early tokens using the LAPTOP name may not have any connection to Hunter Biden's project.
The situation also highlights the speculative nature of political memecoins. TRUMP itself experienced extreme price volatility after its launch, while other politically themed tokens have similarly attracted traders based primarily on news and public attention.
LAPTOP Arrives as Crypto Regulation Takes Shape
The launch is also coming at an important moment for U.S. crypto policy.
The CLARITY Act, a proposed digital asset market-structure bill, is scheduled for a Senate cloture vote on September 15, according to the reporting supplied for the project. The legislation could establish clearer rules around the regulatory treatment of digital assets and divide oversight responsibilities between the SEC and CFTC.
The timing is notable because political memecoins have become part of the broader debate about how cryptocurrencies should be regulated.
Our recent coverage of the CLARITY Act's September deadline also highlighted how closely the legislation is being watched by crypto markets as the industry moves toward a more defined regulatory framework.
LAPTOP adds another politically connected token to that environment, although its launch itself does not determine how the legislation will treat memecoins.

A Memecoin Built Around Political Competition
LAPTOP's most unusual feature may ultimately be its distribution strategy.
Instead of simply launching a political token around Hunter Biden's name, the project is attempting to create an audience by targeting people who already interacted with Trump's crypto ecosystem.
The result is a memecoin built around a political rivalry: TRUMP investors who lost money are among the people LAPTOP intends to reward.
Whether that strategy creates lasting demand or simply generates another short-lived speculative cycle remains to be seen.
For now, the key date is September 9, when LAPTOP is scheduled to launch on Base. With a billion-token supply, a 20% airdrop allocation, founder lockups and conditional burns tied to political and crypto events, the project is likely to attract significant attention before and immediately after launch.
