Hyperliquid Fund Has Spent $1.36B Buying 48M HYPE

Hyperliquid's Assistance Fund has now bought more than 48 million HYPE, spending about $1.36 billion along the way. As of Tuesday, 13 October 2026, those tokens are worth about $3.95 billion.

Put those two numbers side by side and you get a rough picture of the fund's patience. It has paid an average of roughly $28 per token for a pile now valued at around $82 each. On paper, that is close to three times what it spent.

How Big Is 48 Million HYPE?

HYPE's total supply is about 955.3 million tokens. That makes the fund's haul about 5% of everything currently in issue. For a single buyer, built into the exchange itself, that is a lot of tokens.

There's something quietly consistent about that. Plenty of projects talk about rewarding the people who hold their token. Here, the commitment shows up as a running total in billions of dollars. Whatever you think of buybacks, this one is visible and measurable.

The pot behind it has also grown. A framework called AQAv2 routes the yield Hyperliquid earns on its USDC reserves toward the fund. Its first payment, close to $14.58 million in USDC, arrived in early October. So the fund now draws on a new source of money as well as the one that built its $1.36 billion stake.

Burned or Just Held?

Here's the detail that matters most for supply, and it isn't settled yet.

Some accounts describe the fund's tokens as treated as burned, meaning permanently removed from circulating and total supply. Others point out that reports disagree on whether the holdings are destroyed or simply kept, and that buying tokens is not the same as burning them.

That difference changes how you read the 5% figure:

  • If the tokens are burned, about 5% of today's supply is gone for good, and each new purchase shrinks supply further.
  • If the tokens are held, the fund is a very large HYPE holder, and the supply effect depends on what happens to that stake later.

Even the supply figures don't fully line up. Most reports put total supply at about 955.3 million HYPE, while one lists 950.9 million. Small gaps like this are common when different trackers count burns and holdings in different ways, which is exactly the question still open here.

For now, the clearest facts are the size of the bet and its paper value. The supply story rests on one thing Hyperliquid's holders will want spelled out plainly: where those 48 million tokens actually end up.
