Interactive Brokers Opens Ethereum Staking Through Zero Hash

IBKR clients can now stake Ethereum through Zero Hash. Its risk disclosure shows who holds your ETH, why you can't check it on-chain and how long exits take.

Interactive Brokers clients can now stake Ethereum without leaving the broker. The launch was announced on Tuesday, October 13. Eligible clients stake ETH through a Staking Dashboard in IBKR's Client Portal, and Zero Hash provides the staking service.

That is the headline. The plumbing matters more, because it decides what you actually own once you press stake. IBKR's own risk disclosure spells that plumbing out in detail.

Your Staked ETH Sits at Zero Hash, Not IBKR

IBKR's risk disclosure form 4436, dated September 25, 2026, covers trading and staking digital assets with Zero Hash through IBKR's platform. Under it, clients get staking through an account in their own name at Zero Hash LLC.

Staking and unstaking happen in that Zero Hash account, not in an account at IBKR. Zero Hash is your custodian and your counterparty. IBKR does not act as a validator, does not operate network nodes and does not hold the staked assets. Its role is limited to giving you access.

That split has two direct consequences for your account:

  • Staked assets at Zero Hash are not protected by FDIC or SIPC insurance if Zero Hash or IBKR becomes insolvent.
  • Anything held in the Zero Hash account, crypto or cash, gets no margin value at IBKR.

You Cannot Check Your Stake On-Chain

Zero Hash batches client staking requests and commits them to the network at a regular interval. The ETH is then staked and bonded from a single omnibus wallet, one address that pools many clients' assets together.

So your stake will not show up as its own position on the blockchain. The disclosure is blunt about it:

"you will not be able to independently verify individual Staking Reward allocations or staked balances on the public blockchain and must rely on Zero Hash's internal recordkeeping"

If you are used to tracking a validator on a block explorer, this is the biggest change. Your balance and your rewards are whatever Zero Hash's records say they are.

Getting In Takes Days, Getting Out Takes Weeks

The disclosure sets out timing and loss risks you should know before staking:

  • Entry: it can take up to five days after Zero Hash receives your instruction for assets to be fully staked and start earning rewards.
  • Exit: unstaking may take several weeks, depending on the asset, the network and network conditions. It is not guaranteed to finish in any specific amount of time.
  • Slashing: staked assets are exposed to slashing, a penalty proof-of-stake networks can apply, which can mean losing some or all of what you staked.

The exit timing is the one to plan around. Staked ETH at Zero Hash also has no margin value, so it cannot quickly back other positions in your IBKR account while you wait.

What Is Still Unconfirmed

IBKR's own launch announcement was not available to check, so several details remain open:

  • Who is eligible. The launch refers to "eligible clients" without a confirmed definition.
  • Which assets. Ethereum is the only token confirmed at launch. Whether others can be staked is not confirmed.
  • The reward split. A figure of at least 70% of rewards going to clients has circulated, but it does not appear in the IBKR documents checked for this article.

What This Means for ETH Staking Demand

How much ETH this brings into staking cannot be measured yet. No figures on client uptake have been published.

The batching design also makes it hard to track from the outside. Because client stakes are pooled and committed at intervals from one omnibus wallet, IBKR client demand will not appear on-chain as individual deposits. Any read on how much ETH this adds will have to come from Zero Hash or IBKR disclosing it.
