KBC Bank to Offer BTC and ETH to Retail Customers

The move would make KBC Bank the first Belgian bank to offer retail crypto services.

Customers using KBC Bank, a top financial institution in Belgium, will soon be able to access crypto investments using the bank’s subsidiary company, Bolero.

While the bank has to secure a crypto assets license (CASP license), the move, if successful, will make KBC the first Belgian bank to secure such a license and offer crypto retail services.

KBC plans to use Belero, a digital investment platform, to allow customers to invest in BTC and Ether later this year. Sharing details of the move, a KBC spokesperson said that “private investors could then have the opportunity to invest directly in Bitcoin and Ether within a trusted framework, with a focus on education, security, and regulatory compliance.”

Why does this matter for Belgium?

Although crypto activities have seen a significant increase in Belgium, there has been little native crypto presence. So far, users rely on foreign crypto exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase, as well as investment apps like N6 and Revolut.

If successful, KBC would mark the beginning of a much-needed native support for crypto among financial organizations in Belgium. Beyond Belgium, KBC’s crypto intention joins a growing trend of banks becoming involved in crypto investment services.

Notably, major German banks Deutsche Bank and Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe plan to launch crypto services later this year. Similarly, BBVA, one of the largest banks in Spain, now advises its customers to allocate up to 7% of their portfolio to digital assets like Bitcoin.

What Changed?

This global interest in crypto doesn’t come as a surprise to many crypto experts. Factors such as better regulatory support and clarity have served as fuel for this growth.

Earlier this year, executives at crypto research company Messari predicted a significant influx of banks to crypto in the second half of 2025.

Other banks like JP Morgan have expressed similar interest in allowing customers to invest in cryptocurrencies. However, the bank won’t provide custody services. Regardless, such a move is purely beneficial to crypto in the US, as JP Morgan is one of the most reputable financial organizations in the US.
