NEAR Business Pitches Private Multisig Treasuries With a Free Tier

NEAR Business offers crypto teams multisig treasuries with private balances and payroll receipts hidden from block explorers. Here is what it costs.

NEAR Business, a treasury tool for crypto-native finance teams, promises payments that do not show up on a block explorer. Its product page offers payroll, capital allocation and swaps "across 35+ chains from a single dashboard," with multisig approvals. Teams sign up through a "Request Early Access" button, not open registration.

The pitch is privacy. NEAR says balances are "visible to your quorum, not the public," meaning the group of signers who approve payments. If it works as described, a holder of a token whose team adopts it would see less of that treasury's activity on chain than before. That includes who gets paid and how much.

How Private Payments Work, According to NEAR

Teams can "send assets to dozens of recipients in a single batch," the page says. "Every payment generates a confidential receipt for your records, visible to your team and never to a block explorer." The page also lists audit-ready exports, so records can still be handed to auditors.

On custody, NEAR makes two claims:

  • Treasuries can be signed "with hardware through Ledger support," and the "Treasury Contract remains self-custodial."
  • "NEAR Business holds no key or key share capable of unilaterally moving funds from your Treasury Contract or overriding your approval rules."

Approvals are split into roles: requestor, finance and governance. The page lists BTC, ETH, SOL and NEAR among supported assets and says there are "no external bridge interfaces" for moving between chains.

These are NEAR's own descriptions. No independent security review of the Treasury Contract or the privacy layer was available to check them against.

Pricing Starts Free, Swaps Cost 0.35%

The free tier covers 1,000 sponsored actions a month, with NEAR paying the gas. After that, "standard network fees" apply. Swaps carry a 0.35% fee.

That fee adds up for a treasury that moves real money. Swapping $100,000 of one asset into another would cost $350 in NEAR Business fees, before any network costs.

The page says there are "no subscriptions" and lists unlimited users, no asset caps and support for more than 180 assets.

NEAR's $18,000 Comparison Names No Rival

NEAR's page carries a table comparing NEAR Business with "enterprise custody platforms." According to NEAR, those platforms are EVM only, not self-custodial and offer no confidential treasuries. They start at "$18,000+ a year" on annual contracts and take weeks to set up. NEAR lists its own product as free, with no commitment and setup in minutes.

The table does not name a single platform, so a reader cannot check the comparison. It is marketing, not a benchmark. Nothing in the material reviewed compares NEAR Business with Safe, the multisig wallet many crypto teams already use.

What To Watch Next

The product page describes what NEAR Business does, not how it does it. It does not name the contract standard behind the Treasury Contract or the system that keeps balances private. It also does not name what routes its cross-chain swaps.

That last gap matters to NEAR holders. If the swaps run through NEAR Intents, whose fees have already funded $6.68 million of NEAR buybacks, treasury activity on NEAR Business could feed that flow. NEAR's page does not confirm the link.

The page also gives no date for when early access ends and the product opens to every team. Until it does, the privacy and custody claims rest on NEAR's word.
