ONDO vs HBAR: Which Altcoin Leads in 2025?

Our Battle of the Big Caps series continues today with 2 heavyweights. One is up 41% in the last 30 days. Nice. And the other is doing even better, up 81% in the last 30 days.

Which one will continue its nice run to crush more gains in 2025? Today in the Battle, we have Ondo vs HBAR. Let’s see who wins.

The Case for Ondo

Ondo is up 41% in the last 30 days. It’s the clear leader in what is, along with AI, the fastest-growing sector in our industry. That’s RWA.  The case for Ondo skews pretty well in their favor, especially with the recent Genius and Clarity Act passage in the US House and ready to be signed into law.

Ondo gets a nice push from both, but especially the Clarity Act. The purpose of this act is to clarify and separate the regulation of blockchains and their tokens. Tokens listed as Mature or Sufficiently Decentralized in their operations are commodities. That means their regulation comes from the CFTC. Meanwhile, those not mature could be seen as securities and are governed by the SEC.

Projects generally prefer the CFTC for many reasons, even in the more crypto-friendly Trump White House. Right now, only 3 qualify for CFTC treatment. They are:

  • Bitcoin.
  • Ethereum.
  • And Cardano.

This is a HUGE win for Ethereum and Cardano in every way. But how does Ondo benefit? Tokenized assets, as we see now with xStocks, seem to be everywhere and growing fast. And that’s great and part of the mission of RWA to bring real-world assets on-chain. But some markets, including some HUGE markets like Forex or US Bonds, will want to issue on a chain under CFTC leadership.

Ondo’s blockchain is too new and does not qualify yet either. But it could and very soon. It is already EVM compatible, so that’s a good start. If it manages in a practical, decentralized way then it will qualify, too. And enormous trillion-dollar markets will come to them.

Ondo already has strategic partnerships that are the envy of the sector. Blackrock helped Ondo issue its OUSG tokenized US Treasury Bills, and $ONDO is in Blackrock’s BUIDL Fund.

Some specialty appchains are focusing on Real Estate or Lending. Ondo is positioning itself to handle the tokenization of any market regardless of size. And that’s key when trillions of dollars of assets will be tokenized in the next 5 years.

Now the $ONDO token is down 3% in the last 12 months. It’s struggled in 2025 so far, and since its all-time high of $2.14 in mid-December down to its current price of $1.05.

You wouldn’t know it from all the headlines it has and new partnerships and sector growth in RWA, but it’s true. Its recent performance has been much better. Since mid-April, it’s up 40%. It’s still in a range we consider a buying opportunity, seeing the potential of the sector and Ondo’s leadership role in it. Plus, we don’t think BlackRock is going to let it fail.

The Case for HBAR

Now the case for HBAR. The Genius Act benefits Hedera a lot, too. Banks will want to issue stablecoins on chains that are compliant and able to do so without regulatory issues. And Hedera is a complaint chain.

The Stablecoin Studio makes issuing a stablecoin easier than ever. US Banks are going to flock to this platform to issue their stablecoins. And also, when necessary, to swap for native USDC to bridge into other assets. All the systems from regulatory and compliance to developer kits are ready for any bank to use to issue an ERC-20 compliant stablecoin. Banks like Shinhan in South Korea already use it for cross-border payments and remittances.

Hedera is doing big work in AI too. This is a leading hardware solution for verifiable computation. You can see on screen that the solution is big in a world where AI is sucking up all the computing power available.

What verifiable computing allows is the outsourcing of some computing power. It does some of the work for you and then you verify it for accuracy before adding it to your AI model. Hedera enables this as well as auditing services for AI models when they are in testing and training. Really important AI infrastructure.

And it’s Hedera Hashgraph and its $HBAR token that are up 81% in the last 30 days. More than that, it’s up 262% in the last year. Those are some immense returns. And we think the ROI is just beginning here.

Sui Crushing on All Fronts

This project is killing it in all the big sectors it supports, like:

  • DeFi, where Sui nearly crossed $2 billion in TVL and is almost at $1.5 billion in record time
  • Sui has some of the fastest stablecoin growth of any chain, so people are using it for real transactions.
  • Walrus is changing the game in decentralized data storage. Its token launch was a big hit, while Seal and Nautilus make things more secure and private.
  • Suiplay0x1 is coming in September and is now officially sold out with 10,000 pre-orders.

Sui even has a small but growing memecoin market for memecoin lovers. If you haven’t used Sui lately, then come give it a try and follow Sui’s X account for all the latest updates.

The Verdict

Now the verdict. This is an amazingly tough question. If I were asked to pick 5-10 projects that I think would crush it over the rest of this cycle, I would pick both of these. Both are high-quality projects with real solutions for users.

If you believe in trillions coming on-chain soon and fast, and you need your piece of that market, then Ondo is the clear choice. Yes, Hedera is in RWA too, especially in areas like supply chain finance and B2B Payments. But Ondo dominates plain and simple.

And if I wanted to bet on new token issuance, stablecoin growth, and AI infrastructure, then I would choose Hedera.

I think both are going to generate great returns over the next few years. Right now, today, if I had to pick one, though, I think at this price that Ondo is a just slightly better buying opportunity.

But the reality is both should be in your portfolio if you intend to hold long-term. Which one would you pick? Let us know in the comments below.
