PancakeSwap Launches One-Click Crosschain Swaps

PancakeSwap recently launched one-click cross-chain swaps powered by the Across Protocol.

This new PancakeSwap feature enables users to trade crypto across different blockchains without using traditional bridges.

What’s the Big Deal?

Previously, the process of moving tokens across blockchains required bridges, which have often proved to be exploitable. Among the most notable cases is the 2022 incident, when the Ronin Bridge, a vital part of Axie Infinity, lost over $600 million to a hack. That was a bruised reminder that asset lock-up in bridge contracts is not the most secure practice.
That risk is significantly lower with PancakeSwap’s new feature.

Swaps run on a decentralized network of relayers in real-time, as opposed to locking tokens in a CEX. That means faster transactions and far less exposure to exploitations related to using bridges.

Why It Matters for DeFi and Institutions

According to Chef Kids, PancakeSwap’s head chef, this change not only makes swaps safer but also enhances the user experience. “Crosschain swaps using intent-based bridges are generally safer… and give users a smoother, faster experience,” he said.

Intent-based systems like Across work by allowing users to specify what they want, and then relayers—or “solvers”—make it happen in no time. In the Across case, 30 decentralized solvers handle swaps in about three seconds.

For institutions, it reduces complexity, cuts down on smart contract risks, and offers more precise execution. These features are desirable to companies seeking to explore DeFi.
Hart Lambur, co-founder of Across, views this type of technology as crucial for attracting both institutional users and individual users. “It delivers security, auditability, and clean execution,” Lambur explained.

What Else Is Happening in Crosschain DeFi?

DeFi projects are also working on improving cross-chain swaps. In 2024, Unichain standardized ERC-7683, a new standard designed to establish more effective and standardized swaps between blockchain networks. Even Vitalik Buterin gave it a thumbs up, dubbing it an open standard for marking cross-chain orders.
Meanwhile, 1inch also intensifies its efforts with its latest upgrade, Pathfinder, which offers improved rates and more seamless swaps.
