Papertrade Revenue Hits $58M as 1,000x ETH Trading Draws Attention

DefiLlama shows Papertrade booked $58.42 million in fees since its Oct 10 launch, while TVL fell from a $102.09 million peak to about $64.7 million.

Papertrade is drawing attention in the crypto market with its 1,000x leveraged trading model, large reported payouts to token stakers, and rapidly growing revenue figures. But a launch-day trading incident has also exposed the risks behind its high-leverage design.

The platform, which launched on October 10, offers synthetic perpetual contracts for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) on HyperEVM, Hyperliquid’s smart contract network. Traders can open positions with up to 1,000x leverage without trading directly against another user’s order.

Data from DeFiLlama shows Papertrade generated $58.42 million in fees over the 30 days shown in the attached dashboard. The platform reported the same amount as revenue. Its seven-day fees and revenue reached $30.56 million, suggesting that a large share of the recorded activity occurred recently.

The figures have attracted attention to PAPER, the platform’s token. However, high revenue does not automatically mean that traders or token holders will earn a profit. Papertrade’s model depends heavily on trading outcomes, liquidity, and the system used to price positions.

How Papertrade’s 1,000x ETH Perpetuals Work

Papertrade allows users to take synthetic positions on BTC and ETH. A synthetic position gives traders exposure to an asset’s price without requiring them to hold the underlying asset.

The platform uses the midpoint between Hyperliquid’s best bid and best offer as its reference price. Its own liquidity pool takes the other side of traders’ positions.

This differs from an exchange where one trader’s loss can directly match another trader’s gain. At Papertrade, the protocol’s pool acts as the counterparty.

The platform advertises leverage of up to 1,000x. At that level, even a tiny price move can have a major effect on a position’s margin. A move of 0.1% against a fully leveraged position can wipe out the initial margin before considering fees and other mechanics.

That makes the product highly sensitive to price movements, execution rules, and liquidation controls.

Only BTC and ETH perpetuals are on offer and the homepage promises 1,000x leverage, "0 market impact," and a mobile app coming soon.

PAPER Stakers Can Receive USDC Payouts

Papertrade’s model links trader losses to rewards for PAPER stakers.

According to the platform’s launch statements, losing positions help fund its liquidity pool. The protocol also distributes a share of trading-related fees to stakers. When the pool exceeds its reward threshold, surplus funds can be allocated to token holders under the protocol’s rules.

Papertrade said it had paid $25 million to stakers one day after launch. DeFiLlama’s later dashboard showed $54.01 million in holder revenue over 30 days. These are reported distribution figures, not a guarantee of future income.

The distinction matters because the rewards are linked to how the platform performs. If traders win more than they lose, the pool can come under pressure. If trading activity falls, fees and distributions may also decline.

The model may look attractive to people seeking crypto income, but it is not free money. Staking PAPER carries exposure to the protocol’s design, its liquidity, and the market value of the token itself.

What DefiLlama Shows on Fees and TVL

DefiLlama's page records fees of $58.42 million over 30 days, $30.56 million over seven days and $2.37 million in 24 hours, with revenue matching at every window and the totals booked off chain. Holders revenue, the slice attributed to token holders, is $54.01 million over 30 days and $56.14 million cumulative.

Cumulative fees stand at $60.79 million, and the October-to-date row reads $60.79 million in fees against $56.14 million in holders revenue. Since Papertrade has only existed in October, its month and its lifetime are the same thing.

Collateral liquidated, the value of positions the protocol closed out, totals $66.56 million, more than the TVL it reports. DefiLlama's TVL combines trader balances with the protocol pool, so it isn't a measure of the pool alone.

Among the 423 derivatives protocols DefiLlama tracks, Papertrade ranks seventh by TVL. The category holds $1.974 billion, and Papertrade accounts for 3.3% of it.

What PAPER's Staking Numbers Show

Within a week of launch, PAPER stakers had collected $46.71 million in cumulative USDC rewards, alongside $1.15 trillion in cumulative notional volume and $67.55 million in TVL as of mid-October. Trader Ansem has argued that the revenue from traders' losses far outweighs the small fee collected on each trade.

PAPER's supply is about 8.16 billion tokens, with roughly 8.1 billion staked, a 99.23% staking ratio as of Oct 16. The concentration makes sense: staking is where the USDC is.

PaperStrategy, the PAPER treasury on HyperEVM, charges a 10% tax on PSTR buys and sells and has staked about 154 million PAPER. With PSTR's market cap near $8.5 million, that implies roughly $0.064 per PAPER.

The $50 million week-one payout remains the one number in this story without a readable source.

Since the Manipulation Claims

DefiLlama records one security incident for Papertrade: Oct 10, 2026, involving $1.28 million, classified as oracle manipulation. Accounts tracking the launch described a wallet making about $1.28 million within hours of the market opening.

Papertrade has since said it is restricting exposure after the manipulation claims.

What hasn't changed is the shape of the machine: fees come from traders who lose, and those losses go to stakers. Papertrade's model turns losing traders into owners, and in its first days there were enough of them to send $58.42 million through the fee line. Whether that continues is a question about the pool, which already sits well below its Oct 11 peak.
