Pearl (PRL) Trades Near $1.90 After a Reported 228% Monthly Run

Pearl (PRL) traded near $1.90, up 97.8% in 30 days on CoinGecko. Its reported 228% monthly gain rests on a mid-September base CoinGecko does not show.

Pearl (PRL) traded at $1.90 on CoinGecko on 19 October 2026, up 38.5% over seven days and 97.8% over 30, while the wider crypto market fell 3.6% across the same week. The token's all-time high, $2.10, sits 9.4% above that price, and Pearl's own explorer showed block height 130,064, minutes old, so the chain is still producing blocks.

The rally is real. The number attached to it is where it gets slippery: a 228% monthly gain has circulated since mid-September, and CoinGecko's own price page does not reproduce it.

The 228% Claim Rests on a $0.59 Base

Reports put PRL's rise at 228% from about $0.59 in mid-September, and roughly 7x from about $0.28 in August. Both rest on that September base. CoinGecko, the reference most readers will open, shows PRL up 97.8% over 30 days on 19 October and an all-time low of $0.1399, and it does not show a path from $0.59 inside the same window.

The two figures also measure different things: the 228% compares a mid-September print with October highs, while CoinGecko's 97.8% is a rolling 30-day move. The $0.59 base cannot be reproduced from a price-data source, so treat the monthly gain as reported, not confirmed.

Reports date the $2.10 high to 14 October. CoinGecko confirms $2.10 as the all-time high, not the date. One earlier reference puts an all-time high near $1.65 on 29 May 2026, which conflicts with the later print, and no reconciled series ties the two together. By 15 October CoinGecko showed PRL near $1.67, down 13.45% over 24 hours and about 20.5% below the peak; by 17 October it was near $1.87 again.

Pearl Is a Layer-1 Coin With No Contract Address

Pearl is a layer-1 blockchain that went live on 27 April 2026, built by Pearl Research Labs on a fork of Bitcoin's btcd codebase. Its consensus is proof-of-useful-work: miners run matrix multiplication instead of the SHA-256 hashing Bitcoin uses, a method taken from a 2025 paper by co-founders Ilan Komargodski and Omri Weinstein. Blocks target 194 seconds, and the chain keeps Bitcoin's UTXO model and Taproot prl1 addresses.

PRL is the native coin, not a token. There was no sale and there is no contract address; coins enter circulation only through block rewards. The cap is fixed at 2.1 billion with no pre-mine and no team or venture allocation.

That absence matters if you have been searching for "PRL" on a DEX. At least two unrelated tokens share the ticker: a PRL/WETH pair on Inkyswap at contract 0x75e7A5316e44755FF4ad724ee45337D1Eef6895e, created 7 January 2025 and priced near $0.00001184, and a separate pearl token on the Robinhood chain. Neither is connected to pearlresearch.ai, and the top "PRL" result on major price aggregators is a different coin entirely.

Volume Fell 19.7% as the Order Book Stays Thin

Pearl's 24-hour volume was $4.56 million on 19 October, down 19.70% from a day earlier. Market capitalisation was $666.15 million against a fully diluted valuation of $3.997 billion, a ratio of 0.17, because only about 350.03 million of the 2.1 billion PRL cap circulates. About 331.9 million PRL had been mined by block 122,062 on 2 October, 15.8% of the cap, with daily issuance near 1.02 million PRL. More than a third of all existing PRL was minted in the chain's first six days, and one report puts a further 305 million coins due over the next 12 months.

PRL lists on only a handful of venues, so a single book carries much of the story. BigONE's PRL/USDT market held roughly $13,963 of bids within 2% of the price and $27,328 of asks within 2%, thin depth for a coin with a $666 million market cap. Perpetual futures open interest stood at $5.46 million, 0.82% of market cap, with perp volume 2.4 times spot and an 8-hour funding rate of -0.0255%, so shorts were paying longs.

The Mining Story Outruns the Paid Demand

Pearl's case is that its mining does AI work someone pays for. On 15 May 2026 the project partnered with Together AI, which launched a Gemma-4 31B inference endpoint priced more than 25% below the usual rate, with the discount offset by the future value of PRL emissions. Together's own model page, checked on 17 October, still lists the checkpoint and its prices but states the model is not available on its serverless API.

Independent checks of the mining are less flattering. A 3 June preprint by researcher Abhinaba Basu inspected 8,012 workers in one pool over 30-31 May, a sample he estimated at about 21% of network hash power, and reported that the dominant mining software appeared to lack inference code paths; his team also got 44 shares accepted using randomly generated matrices. Pearl's own September 2026 technical paper describes a miner choosing its own inputs, including operands from training or inference, which means a valid proof of computation does not show the work came from a paid request. Co-founder Omri Weinstein has said that letting miners pick their own inputs "will always allow spam mining".

The gating variable is paid demand. One mining-sector analysis argues that most of the "useful work" today is inference nobody bought, which makes the bulk of current mining AI-shaped proof-of-work, and no reviewed public source puts a network-wide figure on how much mining actually serves paying customers.

No Confirmed Catalyst Behind the October Move

No confirmed single catalyst explains the October move. The clearest documented drivers of attention are the reported monthly gain and the mining narrative, and the reports do not establish how much either contributed to buying; no announcement about the rally was found from Pearl Research Labs. Crypto has form here: Cardano's ADA put in a 10% day with no clear catalyst of its own.

Whether the $4.56 million in daily volume reflects organic demand is also unverified. It is concentrated on a small number of venues, the perp to spot ratio shows derivatives running ahead of spot, and the negative funding says traders were leaning short rather than chasing.

The levels are concrete. PRL's all-time high is $2.10, 9.4% above the 19 October price, with a 24-hour range of $1.79 to $2.02. With only $13,963 of bids within 2% on the main book, a modest sell order moves the price more than the $666.15 million market cap suggests, and the same thinness cuts the other way.
