Polkadot Launched Upgrades for Agile Coretime and Scaling

Polkadot, one of the leading blockchain networks for decentralized applications, is rolling out what the community calls Polkadot 2.0

Polkadot Launched Upgrades for Agile Coretime and Scaling

This upgrade promises to boost performance, scalability, and flexibility, allowing developers and enterprises to build faster, more efficient applications.

With Referendum 1721 passing with 100% support, the RFC103 runtime will be enacted on Monday, September 8th, unlocking the full suite of features in Polkadot 2.0.

What’s New in Polkadot 2.0

Polkadot 2.0 is built on three core technical pillars: Async Backing, Agile Coretime, and Elastic Scaling. Each addresses key challenges in blockchain performance and resource management.

Async Backing improves parachain throughput by allowing collators to build blocks on previous Relay Chain blocks. This creates a pipeline of pending blocks, effectively doubling block production speed to every six seconds and quadrupling block size. Developers can expect up to ten times higher performance when combined with Proof-of-Validity reclaim.

For example, gaming platforms and high-frequency trading dapps can now handle more transactions simultaneously without congestion. The benefits are clear: higher transaction volumes, optimized consensus, and greater flexibility for decentralized applications.

Elastic Scaling and Agile Coretime work together to provide dynamic resource management. Elastic Scaling lets parachains increase compute power on demand, while Agile Coretime enables projects to lease coretime for short periods instead of committing to long-term slot auctions.

This approach allows startups and established enterprises to scale efficiently, paying only for the resources they need. Applications experience improved throughput during peak usage, reduced overall costs, and better utilization of available blockspace. Here is Polkadot’s roadmap:

More About Polkadot

Polkadot announced an exciting development: Solana code can now run natively inside Polkadot without bridges, wrappers, or fragmentation. The project, called Lollipop and supported by a Web3 Foundation grant, integrates Solana’s sBPF into Polkadot’s PolkaVM.

This approach allows previously isolated chains to operate on a shared execution layer, enabling seamless interoperability and opening new possibilities for developers to leverage both ecosystems without complex cross-chain solutions.

Solana code running inside Polkadot. No bridges. No wrappers. No fragmentation. Lollipop, backed by a Web3 Foundation grant, is bringing Solana’s sBPF into Polkadot’s PolkaVM. Turning once-isolated chains into a shared execution layer.
