Sberbank Joins Russia's Crypto Exchange Register Before Dec. 1 Launch

The Bank of Russia added Sberbank to its crypto exchange register on Oct. 12. The bank plans its first crypto products on Dec.

Sberbank, Russia's largest lender, now has the Bank of Russia's approval to run crypto exchange services. The central bank added it to its register of authorized crypto exchange operators on Oct. 12, and Sberbank plans to launch its first crypto products on Dec. 1.

For someone who banks with Sberbank, the change is about where crypto sits. The bank said the new status lets it offer crypto services inside the apps its customers already have, rather than sending them to a separate platform. In the bank's own words:

"This status will allow the bank to provide services related to organizing the circulation of digital currency on interfaces which clients already use."

The exchange listing follows Sberbank's earlier clearance to custody crypto. Custody means holding coins for clients. An exchange operator can also run the buying and selling.

Which Coins Sberbank Will Offer Is Not Yet Settled

The bank has said only that its "first products" arrive on Dec. 1. Reports that those products will cover Bitcoin, Ether and USDT have not been checked against Sberbank's own announcement. Its site could not be read when this article was prepared.

The same applies to reported limits on what ordinary retail buyers may purchase, and how much. Those rules have not been confirmed against the central bank's own text. Until either document can be read, the coin list and the caps are open questions, not facts.

Russia's Register Is Filling Up Fast

The Bank of Russia opened applications on Oct. 5. Some established financial institutions can be registered by notification, a simplified route that can take a single day. That helps explain the speed: the first exchange operators were listed only about a week before Sberbank, as Russia registered its first crypto exchanges.

How many firms are now on the register is unclear. Published counts disagree, and the central bank's decision pages could not be checked directly. What is consistent is the direction: the list has grown within days of opening, and Russia's biggest bank is now on it.

Dec. 1 Is the Date to Watch

Sberbank's launch date is a plan, not a guarantee. The first thing to look for on Dec. 1 is whether products actually go live, and the second is which assets they support. That second answer will matter more to holders than the approval itself, because it decides what Russians can buy through the country's largest bank.
