At TOKEN2049, Scroll unveiled the “neodollar,” a next-gen digital currency beyond traditional stablecoins.
Traditional stablecoins like USDT or USDC are designed to track the value of a fiat currency, usually the U.S. dollar. They serve as a way to store value and move funds quickly across blockchains. But critics argue they are still limited, often lacking privacy features and offering little in terms of yield or integration into daily payments.
Scroll’s USX aims to change that. Unlike a stablecoin that simply mirrors the dollar, USX is built to function more like cash in the digital world. It offers real privacy through Scroll’s Cloak technology, enabling transactions that are verifiable but not exposed to the public. It also supports gasless transactions, reducing friction for users unfamiliar with blockchain fees.
At the same time, USX is designed to be productive. Deposited funds will earn an estimated 12% yield, sourced from a combination of traditional finance and decentralized finance strategies. This makes it not only a payment tool but also a vehicle for growing value over time.
Plasma, a high-performance layer-1 blockchain designed specifically for stablecoins, is taking another step toward expanding its ecosystem. Just one week after launch, Plasma already hosts over $5.5 billion in stablecoin supply, demonstrating strong early adoption.
Now, the network is joining Chainlink Scale, giving developers access to advanced tools and infrastructure to build next-generation stablecoin applications. This partnership aims to enhance reliability, security, and interoperability, empowering developers to create innovative financial products while leveraging Plasma’s speed and scalability.
