Sei Giga Upgrade Begins Mainnet Rollout With Eidos Going Live

Sei Network has begun rolling out its Giga upgrade on mainnet, with Eidos going live as the first major stage of the overhaul targeting 200,000 TPS and sub-400ms finality.

Sei Network has begun rolling out its Giga upgrade on mainnet, with Eidos becoming the first major stage to go live. The upgrade is designed to push Sei toward 200,000 transactions per second (TPS) and sub-400ms finality while maintaining compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

The Giga upgrade is being delivered through three major components: Autobahn, Ares, and Eidos. Each targets a different part of Sei’s infrastructure, covering consensus, transaction execution, and blockchain storage.

Sei Giga Upgrade Targets 200,000 TPS

Sei’s Giga upgrade represents a major redesign of the network rather than a simple performance optimization. The project is targeting more than 200,000 TPS, compared with the network’s previous throughput range of roughly 5,000 to 12,500 TPS.

Autobahn is the consensus component. It uses a multi-proposer design that allows several validators to propose blocks simultaneously instead of relying on a single proposer at a time. Combined with asynchronous execution, Sei says the architecture could significantly increase throughput.

Ares focuses on execution and has already been introduced as the default execution client through Sei’s v6.6 mainnet upgrade.

Eidos addresses storage. Its rollout separates EVM state from the rest of Sei’s Cosmos SDK data, reducing competition between historical queries and live transaction processing.

According to the supplied project data, Sei’s internal testing has demonstrated more than 200,000 TPS under controlled conditions. However, those results do not represent sustained mainnet performance.

Eidos Goes Live on Sei Mainnet

The first major Giga storage changes are now reaching mainnet through the phased Eidos rollout.

Eidos introduces a dedicated database for EVM state and a new pruning process designed to keep nodes closer to the chain tip. Sei said testing reduced a cleanup operation that previously took around 8–18 minutes to approximately five minutes.

The migration is designed to happen without taking the blockchain offline. Additional Eidos components, including FlatKV, LtHash and new receipt storage, are planned for later phases.

Meanwhile, Autobahn remains the largest Giga component still ahead, as its complete consensus redesign has not yet reached mainnet.

Sei Giga Upgrade: What Comes Next?

The rollout means Sei has already moved parts of its Giga architecture into production, but the network still needs to demonstrate whether its ambitious performance targets can hold under real-world mainnet conditions.

Sei previously described Giga as a path toward 5 gigagas of throughput and 200,000+ TPS, alongside sub-400ms finality. The remaining Autobahn rollout will therefore be an important milestone for the network's broader performance ambitions.

The project has been publishing its Giga progress in phases rather than committing to a single completion date.
