SEI Network vs Hedera HBAR: Which Altcoin Comes Out on Top?
In our Battle of the Giants series, we go head-to-head with Sei Network and Hedera. Which altcoin has the better cards on the crypto table?

Sei Network ($SEI) and Hedera ($HBAR) are both titans in the crypto sector. I’m putting them head-to-head today in our Battle of the Giants series. By doing so, I cut through the hype, any marketing, and possible tribalism. So, I will do this in a way that actually matters. I will break down real-world numbers, their performance, and various game-changing updates.
So, making the right choice now can be worth more than you think. After I cut through the noise, you will know which next move and altcoin in crypto can make or break you. Make sure to watch until the end, since it may change how you see these two chains.
The Case for Sei Network ($SEI)
Let’s kick this battle off with Sei Network and its $SEI altcoin. With Sei you find yourselves back in the finance sector. It’s all set up to accommodate Defi. Sei Network is fast and offers low-cost transactions. Both are very important factors in DeFi.
Recently, Sei Network and its $SEI token had the wind in its sails. There were lots of noteworthy news updates. As a result, the network found itself back in the spotlight.
During the last 3 months, the $SEI token price went from 20 cents to 30 cents. It peaked at 37 cents. With a $1.7 billion market cap, there’s certainly more room to go higher. Its current ATH is $1.15, so that’s around a 3x from here. Out of a 10 billion $SEO token supply, already 5.7 billion circulate. So, that looks good.
Currently, Sei is focusing on RWA, stablecoins, and institutional use cases. Three markets where a lot of money is moving around, with lots of upside potential.
Sei Network News Updates
So, let’s take a look at what’s happening at Sei.
Daily stablecoin transaction volume is going through the roof. Currently, it’s at $4.68 billion. In under 4 months, it hit a stablecoin supply ATH with $243 million.

- Native $USDC is now on Sei Network. In only 10 days, there’s $110 million $USDC available on Sei Network. This beats various other chains in supply, in only 10 days. For example, Sei outranks Algorand, Hedera, Linea, Near, and Polkadot in $USDC supply.
So, this shows that there’s plenty of activity going on at Sei. Check out our popular video on how many $SEI it takes to become a millionaire.
It’s currently ranked as 72nd project, measured by market cap. I can see it move up a bit from here. Which rank do you think Sei will end up with?
The Case for Hedera ($HBAR)
With Hedera ($HBAR) we move in a different direction. However, as with Sei, stablecoins also play a big role on Hedera. The Genius Act favors both chains. For instance, banks may want to issue stablecoins. So, they are looking for chains that are compliant. Well, Hedera is such a chain.
And as a quick reminder. Hedera is NOT a blockchain. Instead, it’s a hashgraph. This allows for faster transactions, lower transaction costs, and better scalability. It’s run by a governing council which is made up by leading global firms. For instance, Google, IBM, Boeing, or Deutsche Telekom.
But let’s first look at what else happened in July on Hedera? Let’s dig in.
$HBAR saw a new listing on Robinhood and Kraken. Robinhood adds a potential 25+ million new retail investors.
Byzanlink partnered with Hedera. This brings a potential $100+ million in RWAs to Hedera.
$USDC Supply on Hedera
So, these are very positive signs for Hedera. However, there’s also some less good news surrounding stablecoins on Hedera. In July, we saw $224.3 million $USDC being issued on Hedera. However, in only a few days, this circulating supply dropped to 57.5 million $USDC. That’s down 70% in only a few days. This outpaced and reversed the surge we saw in July.

This can be explained by an inflow in July to time-limited incentives or test initiatives. Think of tokenization pilots with major banks or RBA collaborations. So, once the incentives dried up, institutional holders and whales withdrew their stables. Most likely on the hunt for better options in DeFi.
The $HBAR token also took a bit of a hit. It’s down 9.3% over the last 7 days. Almost consistent with the stablecoin outflow. The current $HBAR price is 24 cents. In July, $HBAR went up to 30 cents. That’s nearing in on its ATH of almost 57 cents. However, it’s also good to have a bit of a pullback to cool down and get ready for the next leg up.
The Verdict
So, here’s the showdown. Which one of these two titans will win this Battle of the Giants. On one side, we have a fairly new, fast and furious DeFi appchain. That’s SEI with its $SEI altcoin On the other hand, we have a well-established crypto project that’s been around for a while. Here I’m looking at Hedera and the $HBAR altcoin.
Sei Network excels in the finance sector and is made for DeFi. It saw some amazing growth numbers over the last couple of months. There seems to be a lot more room to grow as well.
Hedera is a much more established project, that recently saw a bit of a setback. However, having been around for such a long time, it should be able to handle that.
Now, if I look at pure growth potential, Sei network has the most upside potential. Simply because its market cap is so much smaller compared to Hedera. That’s $1.7 billion for Sei and $10.4 billion for Hedera. We’re looking at a 6x difference. However, Sei is also riskier from that point of view.
On the other hand, Hedera is the project that has proven a lot already and is governed by some serious big guns. So, it’s a tough call. Both are great projects, and I lean towards Sei, because of the better growth potential. Having said that, if you prefer Hedera, that’s also a sound choice.
