SEI vs Ripple XRP: Which Altcoin Will Skyrocket and Why?

Altcoins are on the rise, even if you don’t feel it yet. And the reason you may not feel it is that the big caps are leaving everyone else in the dust. They are making ALL the gains. At this moment, it is crucial to understand which big cap should you hold in your portfolio; XRP or Sei? Both altcoins hold massive upside potential. It’s a clash between a proven powerhouse, altcoin, and a newer kid on the block. However, that new kid is also a fast-growing challenger.

So, today, I will look into the strengths and weaknesses of Ripple’s $XRP and Sei Network’s $SEI. I will also show you their hidden potential. So, get ready for this new series, ‘Battle of the Big Caps’. You don’t want to miss this and find which altcoin will skyrocket.

The Case for Ripple ($XRP)

So, I will start with the case for Ripple and its $XRP token. For reference, you can check my recent and very popular video about $XRP. Here’s the link. So, one of the main driving factors for Ripple and $XRP is its institutional adoption. 

For example, in a recent move, Ripple applied for a national bank charter. This would give Ripple regulation on both Federal and State level. This would put Ripple’s $RLUSD stablecoin in a prime position for crossover use between Web2 and Web3.

Furthermore, Brad Garlinghouse also mentioned that Ripple applied for a Fed Master account. He’s Ripple’s CEO. This will give Ripple direct access to the Federal Reserve. Not through a bank or a proxy. This will give Ripple full banking privileges, if approved.

XRPL, the XRP ledger or blockchain, is now EVM compatible. This is possible with the XRPL EVM sidechain In other words, you can now use Ethereum tools to build on XRPL. Axelar now integrates the XRPL with over 50 other chains. This brings DEXes, DeFi apps, RWA, and NFTs to the XRPL. 

There are also 19 $XRP ETF filings waiting for approval. That’s the highest number of ETF filings for one token. This includes some huge players, like Franklin Templeton, 21Shares, and Grayscale. According to Polymarket, chances of such approval in 2025 are currently at 87%.

Strategic Reserves

We also see institutions adding $XRP to their strategic reserves. For example, Webus, a Chinese firm, wants to add $300 million worth of $XRP to their strategic reserve. Hyperscale Data, another firm, wants to add $10 million worth of $XRP to their strategic reserve.

In the UAE, VARA, the Dubai Financial Services Authority, added $XRP. You can use $XRP now for global money transfers through Dubai. 

So, as you can see, Ripple ($XRP) leans heavily on institutional adoption.

The $XRP Token

The current $XRP price is $2.29 with a massive $135 billion market. $XRP ranks as #4 among all tokens. The thing that stands out is the circulating supply of $XRP compared to the total supply. After 10 years, there’s still not even 60% of $XRP in circulation. 

The max supply is 100 billion $XRP and 59 billion circulate. This is one of the reasons why Ripple gets a lot of criticism. It’s easy to dump 1 billion $XRP or $2.27 billion on the market by the team.

The Case for Sei Network ($SEI)

Now I will get into the Sei Network ($SEI) case. Sei is a different beast all together. Compared to Ripple it’s like the new kid on the block. Sei’s mainnet launched in August 2023, together with the $SEI token. $XRP has 10 years on Sei! I talked already about Sei in yesterday’s video. 

Sei Network is built for high-frequency trading. To clarify, DeFi is one of the spear points for Sei. Sei’s TVL skyrocketed to over $600 million last week. 

For example, it has one of the fastest finality scores in the crypto sector. Finality is when a transaction can’t be reversed anymore. Think of paying something by your credit card. You know there’s plenty of funds in your account to pay for the item. Still, you have to wait a few moments before the settlement clears. Sei’s finality is 400ms. Financial transactions need fast settlement so the assets can change hands quickly at the agreed-upon price.

Giga

It’s max TPS or transactions per second are also massive. Soon, this will be around 250k TPS. This is fast enough to keep up with Web2 apps like Google. They can handle up to 100k complex TPS. Sei’s new Giga feature takes care of this. This is still a work in progress for the time being. This is important because financial transactions need fast confirmation. 

So, Giga is a big deal for the Sei Network. Especially considering that Sei is moving away from the Cosmos ecosystem. Sei will become an EVM chain. Current EVM chains can only offer up to 5k TPS. So, with Giga, Sei positions itself as one of the leading chains inside the EVM ecosystem.

Furthermore, Sei is also active in AI. that’s another promising crypto sector. This also makes sure that Sei doesn’t put all its eggs in one basket. Such diversification is good and gives a project more options to survive.

The $SEI Token

The current $SEI price is 27 cents with a $1.5 billion market cap. That’s a medium-range market cap and places Sei Network as 76th in CoinGecko’s list. The max number of $SEI tokens is 10 billion and the circulating supply is 5.5 billion tokens. That’s almost the same percentage as $XRP.

Which Altcoin Wins this Battle of the Big Caps?

So, it’s time to make a final decision between Ripple ($XRP) and Sei Network ($SEI). Our first Battle of the Big Caps is coming to an end. Both projects are set to shine in this coming bull run and alt season.

Ripple ($XRP) is an established player. It is getting massive institutional interest. Ripple is also strong on the regulatory side, with the SEC case dropping. It’s a low-risk choice, but due to its high market cap, there’s limited upside.

On the other hand, Sei Network is a dynamic new layer 1 with cutting edge blockchain tech. It’s designed for trading, like DeFi, but it’s now also exploring AI. Because of its smaller market cap, potential gains can be higher with $SEI. However, it also still has plenty to prove. So the ride higher could be volatile and bumpy.

I expect the investor profiles for both projects to be quite different. So, the direction of the market might decide the winner between these two. Will the market fancy institutional finance or favor DeFi and trading apps?
