The U.S. Senate has officially postponed a vote on the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act until after lawmakers return from their August recess.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune confirmed that the bill will not receive a floor vote this week. Instead, the Senate plans to continue work on the legislation when it reconvenes in September.

This delay means the crypto industry will have to wait longer for one of the most important digital asset bills in the United States.

Thune Confirms September Timeline

The update was first shared by POLITICO reporter Jordain Carney, who posted on X that Senate Majority Leader John Thune had confirmed the delay.

According to Carney's post, Thune said the Senate would "get it teed up" for consideration once lawmakers return in September.

The announcement confirms that the Senate will not vote on the CLARITY Act before beginning its August recess.

Why the CLARITY Act Matters

The CLARITY Act is one of the most important crypto bills currently moving through Congress.

The legislation aims to create a clear regulatory framework for digital assets in the United States. It would define how cryptocurrencies are regulated and clarify the roles of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Supporters believe the bill would:

  • Create clear rules for crypto companies.
  • Improve investor protection.
  • Encourage innovation in the U.S.
  • Give businesses more certainty when building blockchain products.

Many companies across the crypto industry have backed the legislation, saying it would make the United States more competitive in the digital asset sector.

Why the Vote Was Delayed

Republican leaders had hoped to move the bill forward before the Senate left Washington. However, the proposal has not received enough bipartisan support to advance.

Several Democratic senators have asked for more negotiations before holding a final vote. Lawmakers are still discussing issues related to the bill, including provisions covering ethics, financial oversight, and other regulatory details.

Without enough support, Senate leadership decided to postpone the vote until lawmakers return after the summer break.

What Happens Next?

The CLARITY Act has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is now waiting for Senate approval. When Congress returns in September, senators are expected to continue negotiations before bringing the bill to the Senate floor.

If approved by the Senate, the legislation would move one step closer to becoming law and could provide the crypto industry with its first comprehensive federal market structure framework.

What It Means for the Crypto Market

The delay is likely to keep regulatory uncertainty in focus over the coming weeks.

Many analysts believe clear crypto regulations could encourage more institutional investment into Bitcoin and other digital assets. Until the Senate votes, however, investors may remain cautious. Despite the delay, industry leaders still expect discussions to continue when lawmakers return in September.

For now, the CLARITY Act remains one of the most closely watched pieces of crypto legislation in the United States.
